Dr. Melin did my L4 L5 fusion surgery in 2022 and did an excellent job. Very professional and caring. Took plenty of time with me every appointment and made me feel I was his only patient. I need another surgery and found out today that he has retired so my heart is broken and don’t know where I will go. He’s always been referred to as the best neurosurgeon in Wilmington and that came from HOSPITAL staff.

Saved my life
I was referred to Dr Melin for back issues. Luckily he checked my cervical spine MRI’s and found issues that were missed by technician who read films. I have a fusion in my neck C3-C6 and have back issues that Dr Melin said will try to avoid surgery. I am so grateful!

Horrible bedside manner, rude doctor.
Dr. Melin is the rudest, least compassionate doctor I have ever met. He isn't my doctor but my mother's. He has absolutely no bedside manner at all. Makes you wait forever to see him and unless you request to see him, he has his P. A. meet with you. At our last visit, he came in the room and asked if she wanted surgery and when she said at her age that she couldn't go through surgery but wanted to know what else there was, he cut her off, said he would see her in a few months and have her get an x-ray before coming back, and exited the room without even saying good bye, it was nice to see you, kiss my foot...nothing! We sat there in shock. He is as cold as ice. No wonder he gets a 3 star rating...I wouldn't give him a 1 star rating.

Awesome Doctor
I started treatment with Dr. Thomas Melin in January of 2019 and he treated me through June of 2021. He is a kind and patient man and a skilled surgeon. I would go to no other, I trusted him completely.

My past experience with Dr. Melin was EXCELLENT! I was in a lot of pain. Immediately when I woke up after surgery (L4-L5) I was out of pain. I followed instructions of Dr. Melin and to this day, I am still out of pain from that procedure and continue to do the stretch exercises before I get out of bed. I trust Dr. Melin and tell all my friends and recommend anyone with back, spinal issues to go and see him first! (My procedure has been at least 20 years ago and I would do it all again!)

Dr Melin can come across as arrogant but he spent 15 years in college (after high school) learning neurosurgery. Dr Melin is very bright and is under a lot of stress. I currently have a left ventricular shunt that Dr Melon adjusted. I understand the bit of arrogance he may show in some people's opinions but he is intelligent and seems to want to help all of his patients.

I would agree with previous reviews, he’s arrogant. Passed me off to his PA. He feels my condition needs monitoring so I haven’t seen his face since first visit. Where he really didn’t speak to me much he talked to my fiancé like I was a child. Kept interrupting me. Last time I saw the PA, I even made the comment oh so I am not ready for surgery so he passes me off to you he doesn’t have time to talk to me! Made me surprised to see all the comments with same experience! PA is great though!

Didn't see him on half the visits. He has his PA do everything. Very blunt and couldn't be bothered once surgery was not recommended. OFFICE STAFF IS BY FAR THE WORST I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!!! Expect to sit in waiting room forever! Literally 30 min. to 2 hours past your appointment time.

Very noncaring attitude toward patients. Seems like referrals are a waste of time. Very arrogant to patient and family. Would not recommend him to anyone. Staff preoccupied and don't address patients when they arrive. Interrupts you when you try to ask questions about your condition and walks out leaving you sitting for 15 minutes when a staff members tells you he's done and you can go, not even so much as have a good day when you leave.

Arrogant, obnoxious. Unless you are writhing in pain and ripe for surgery he wants nothing to do with you! In fact he had the nerve to ask why I was there...implying I was wasting his time. I was referred to him to discuss all of my possible options. I did not ask to see "God" that day. When he ruled out surgery as an option, I was summarily dismissed with the comment "You know, this is not how I make my living!" Unless I am mistaken, he was paid for this very short visit. Compassion = "0"

You may have to corral him to stop and give you answers, but I wasn't looking for a new best friend. The PA (himself excellent) was there to discuss with me. I was looking for the best person I could find to cut my throat and play with my spine. My surgery went without a hitch and all care pre- and post-op care was excellent.
