A terrific doctor
Dr Klein has treated me for knee and hip joint pain for about five years. He always knows what to do and does it well. I can walk and climb steps because of him. Plus, he has a good sense of humor.

The Very Best In His Profession
I was fortunate to have Dr. Klein treat my minor torn ligament injury sustained playing basketball, as he made rounds in the ER. Knee, rotator cuff, and foot injuries added to the list over the following few years, all treated successfully WITHOUT surgery. Enough convincing experience to finally stop playing full court basketball in my 50s vs. players in their 20s and teens lol. But the biggest payoff was when my middle child sustained a severe Osteochondral knee fracture as a senior with Langley h/s in the semi-finals of their 3rd consecutive VA State championship series. Dr. Klein was assisted by the practice’s co-founder Dr. Hartley in successfully utilizing a state of the art procedure. Complete repair and recovery ahead of schedule with no hinderance in running and sports participation. Now 10 years later, there are zero effects from the injury. I cannot thank Dr. Klein and Dr. Hartley enough, and grateful for everything the practice has done for my family.

Outstanding from top to bottom
Because it had been 10 years since I’d seen Dr. Klein (non-surgical), I was understandably treated as a new patient, therefore my experience may typify someone seeing him for the first time. He could not have been more attentive or informative. 1) Excellent advice, delivered with warmth 2) Fully explained future care plan 3) Expectations appropriately set. Kudos!!!

Doctor was great but front office was a hot mess.
I made a consultation appointment with Dr. Klein for a knee replacement. I really liked him and ultimately scheduled the surgery. However, I ended up having to switch surgeons at the last minute because his front office was unable to get me the information I needed for my pre-surgery appt with my primary care doctor or complete my FMLA paperwork. For 2 months, every time I contacted them (4-6x) they promised that the information/orders i needed were in the mail, email, portal, ready for pickup in the office, … but nothing ever arrived. This made me nervous because lots of moving parts need to come together for a major surgery coupled with time away from work, and I had zero confidence in Dr. Klein’s front office to make those parts happen.

Dr Klein is great!
Dr Klein focused on the problem at hand, asking questions and testing joints as we went. He listened carefully to my experience, and after reviewing X-rays, was able to say I did NOT need a hip replacement! He ordered additional tests and suggested a fellow practice member with spinal specialty to investigate further for a diagnosis. He was efficient but patient, so I felt heard.

Best surgeon
I can only give the highest recommendation for Dr Thomas Klein. He my full hip replacement and a few years after when I became allergic to the metal he did the revision surgery. Both times he was kind, thoroughly explained everything so I had the knowledge I needed to feel at ease, very caring about his patients well-being and best surgeon I could have wanted. After my full hip replacement slowly I became allergic to the metal. Dr Klein also performed my revision surgery too. I only wish I still lived in Virginia because I now believe that I am in need of a other hip replacement on my right hip. I am very concerned about finding a well qualified hip surgeon in RI. Don’t hesitate to have Dr. Klein as your surgeon because he is the best.

Trust & Faith in Dr Klein
I had a successful knee replacement a few years ago with Dr Klein. Yesterday I returned with a painful shoulder ailment. I immediately got X-rays right in the office then Dr Klein thoroughly explained his diagnosis. He’s brilliant at finding your weak spot and giving you several options. A competent surgeon who doesn't suggest surgery as a first option! I was given several exercise plans, a painless cortisone shot to ease the pain and many suggestions of how to properly heal. I left the office happy and grateful. Dr Klein will always be my Go To Guy!

Conservative Approach
After reviewing a knee MRI together, Dr. Klein was very thorough in explaining what was happening with my knee pain and swelling and was not quick to want to do any surgical procedures. I appreciated his more conservative approach after listening to what had progressed and what had not and making recommendations for me to manage the issue through non surgical ways to start. Allowing my body to continue to recover on its own but with some PT and anti-inflammatories to help it along faster. This is the second time I have come to him, for a different reason and I will continue to see him in the future as needed.

Ultimate professional, personal; patient friendly
After a very successful experience with a total knee replacement, I returned to consult with Dr. Klein about shoulder pain and flexibility issues. He is professional, personable, and competent. My experience with Dr. Klein, Ortho VA in the knee replacement was excellent: the surgeon, staff, and Reston Hospital facilities. He is punctual, and while taking time to exchange personal experiences or stories, unwaveringly assesses the medical issue and provides options, allowing the patient to make the final decision as to what course of action to follow. I have recommended Dr. Klein to others, and do not hesitate to do so publicly on this site.
