Dr. Atkinson and the entire staff at Utica Park Clinic are friendly, professional and responsive to my medical needs. I have recommended Dr. Atkinson to my friends because I wish they could have better health care.

Dr Atkinson is the best
No matter the type of visit Dr Atkinson takes the time to listen and works to find the root cause of the problem. He will also follow up after the visit.

Looks at the whole picture.
I am a retired RN and am helping my sister navigate her complex medical problems. Visiting this physician was a breath of fresh air. I appreciated his thoroughness with her meds and explanation of the importance of following a regimen. He is caring and committed to following a high standard of care. I feel folks might give a poor review when they don’t get what they want.

Put my mom on the brink of death
After looking through all these reviews I'm not surprised that he almost killed my mother. My mother was perfectly healthy 50 year old woman and after seeing him for less than a month he prescribed her medication that was bad for her kidneys. She has polycystic kidney disease and we knew that she would have to be on dialysis one day but instead of being on dialysis when she's in her 70s and 80s she now lives her life in her early fifties doing three bags of dialysis a day not being able to enjoy her life. All because of doctor Atkinson's negligence.

Hello, I saw Dr. Atkinson in Jenks OK a week ago for an annual physical. I almost didn't make the appointment because of the reviews on healthgrades but chose to take a risk and I'm glad I did. In contrast to some of the reviews, I found him to be very friendly and helpful and was willing to work with me. My wife also saw him a couple months ago and had the same experience. One other comment - he was not pushy on the COVID shot. I won't take the shot, and he did a good job explaining his official medical opinion, but in the end he respected my decision and did not try to push too hard. I appreciated that. I would recommend him.

He is gruff and non caring of his patients needs. I would not recommend him to anyone. Caused me more grief in 90 days than my previous 20 years with Doctors!

My previous doctor left his practice so I went to Dr. Atkinson (same office) for the first time for my preventative once a year wellness checkup which is covered (required) by insurance. Dr. Atkinson charged for a consultation visit as well as the checkup & then coded the lab work as part of the consultation visit. As a result I have to pay for an office visit & the lab fees! Dr. Atkinson stated later it is policy for the first visit to do this. He spent less than 10 minutes with me for the checkup/consultation visit & never mentioned the policy! This has never happened to me with any other doctor & I will NEVER go back to Dr. Atkinson. He is apparently in the business of maximizing profits at my expense rather than providing full disclosure of charges up front or providing adequate medical care. I am very disappointed & upset. If this is the policy the patient should be made aware before the visit.

This guy is a joke. Would not refill a prescription for a medication I have taken for several years without problems. His logic was "has the potential for harm". I know this which is why I only use it sparingly as needed. I was requesting a low dosage of 20 pills, which helps me to mitigate any risk of dependence. He didn't listen and was not willing to hear my point of view. Personally I don't think he has any business being a doctor. These are stressful times and I had hoped to at least be able to rely on my doctor for help. Unfortunately, I now have to find a new doctor to help with my panic attacks.

Frustrated patient – Sep 03, 2020
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Atkinson?
After our doctor went to a new practice, my wife was assigned this doctor. He cancelled the scripts the previous doc had written for important daily medications and **didn't even inform the patient**. After a few days without a refill we had to reach out and he told her he "doesn't like to prescribe those medications" that she'd been on for YEARS "bc of the risk of dependency and abuse". And also that she must see a psychiatrist (again) and wait until his next available appt in 2 weeks to get more. He obviously never even looked at her medical history. He chose to cut someone off cold turkey after years of use because he suspected her of being a drug abuser. Medical gatekeeping at its finest. We're leaving this because we don't trust this person with our health. And by continuing to employ him, we also don't trust Utica Park Clinic.

Dr. Atkinson, his Staff, were absolutely amazing, I have referred him to my friends and family. I respect his team, and the Dr. Atkinson nothing but professionalism. I looked for a long time for an old fashion doctor who would listen to me and see to my needs, I wouldn't trade Dr. Atkinson and Staff for nothing or nobody, but don't take my word try this team for yourself. Very stingy with referrals and prescriptions. Appears to fear lawsuits/malpractice to the point he is somewhat ineffective and the patient feels they need a second opinion. Often difficult to deal with, recently let go his entire office staff and replaced them. Do not recommend.

A great old fashioned family doctor! He listens, asks questions, is open to dialog. He truly seems to try for a clear and holistic picture of his patient. I was so pleased with his bed side manner that I convinced by husband to change primary care physicians and become a patient of Dr. Atkinson. He must review your files extensively before the appointment because he will call you by name and ask focused questions about your needs.
