Dr. Stewart Carter lacks empathy and compassion. He was very hateful and unconcerned when I voiced concerns regarding my daughter having frequent PVC’s and very angrily told me “ma’am, there is nothing cardiac wrong with your child” when I requested a cardiology consult due to the frequent PVC’s. Little did he know, after cardiology seen her, she was diagnosed with LVNC cardiomyopathy. If I hadn’t pushed for a cardiology consult, he would have sent her home with this condition since he was so sure of himself that she did not have anything wrong with her from a cardiac stand point according to him. After he stormed in our room and disrespectfully addressed our concerns, my 16 year old daughter said “I do not feel safe here”. After that, I requested a transfer to another hospital and then they agreed to a cardiology consult. Dr. Carter is careless and would have missed my daughter’s serious cardiac condition if I had not been an advocate for her.

Highly Recommend
Dr. Carter performed surgery on my son who developed an infection after an off road vehicle accident a year prior. That surgery saved his life and will improve his quality of life. Dr. Carter is warm and compassionate and communicates procedures and care plans clearly. He is the strongest patient advocate I’ve ever encountered. Through this stressful time, it felt as though my son was his only patient. His assuring bedside manner put my son and our family at ease. I am so grateful for the surgical skill and great care that has been provided to my son by Dr. Carter.

My teenage daughter required emergent surgery for a perforated appendix on Aug 23, 2021. As a critical care nurse for 28 years, I've seen my share of bad outcomes, and I was so afraid to have this experience as a "mom". Dr. Carter took the time to reassure and inform me from the ER all the way through discharge from the hospital. He provide excellent care to my daughter in every way. His single incision technique is something I had never seen, and I am so happy this was possible for a teenage girl especially. I am so thankful for his skill and care.

We are very blessed to have crossed paths with Dr. Carter on my daughter's medical journey. She has been to our local ER three times and was always sent back home all the while, her condition was not improving. She was rushed to Norton's Children's Hospital about a week ago and that is where we met Dr. Carter. He was very thorough in explaining things to us and he checked everything twice or more as he said he always wants to be sure of things before he makes a plan and/or takes any medical action. He performed a procedure on her which immediately gave her relief. Dr. Carter came to visit my daughter during her stay at Norton's Hospital several times a day and always took the time to speak with us about any concerns or questions we may have. The next step was always discussed with us personally before any action was taken. We are continuing our treatment and any further procedures that she may need with Dr. Carter and would not trust anyone else with her as much as we do him.

I had the great misfortune of dealing with Stewart Carter during my daughter's hospital stay at Children's of Al. We are still here because she's very sick but am refusing care from Carter. He is highly condescending, and not up to date on his research of infectious diseases. He refused to perform a simple strep test on my child. He knows nothing of her condition, as he sees her for two minutes in the morning during rounds which he uses to dismiss my concerns and cancel further testing ordered
