Worst Experience of My Life
Please stay far away from this physician and do not allow him to touch anyone you care about. I underwent what should have been a fairly routine ostomy repair (from a traumatic accident) and Dr. Schechter initially presented as a competent, caring physician. However, the surgery is a contender for worst experience of my life. I woke up from anesthesia while still in the OR (something he tried to say didn’t happen despite nurses confirming it was true), I was severely under medicated for pain in PACU, only ordered IV acetaminophen on the medical floor, a catheter placed during surgery was 2 sizes too large causing inability to urinate postop, and all my needs dismissed at every turn. Dr. Schechter also caused a severe postop infection by refusing to wear PPE and required reopening of the surgical site. No pain meds given, no explanation, just yelling and holding me to be still. A nurse explained what they did after it was done and said infections are routine for his patients.

Went for 1 appointment only, it was for a fistula. He was interested in knowing where I come from, what I do for a living and socializing so I went a head. but as he examined he kept asking questions about my partner work without paying attention to what he is doing / examining. I let it go and hoped he will set down, take the time to explain what is happening, what he suggest and why. instead he lectured me ( in patronizing way) over one word that I used in British English and what I should have said in American English and then he jumped to conclusion surgery date and start clearing the room for next patient. He might be the best but he seems a bit in rush, lost passion and interest in what he is doing and more interested in socializing in a disrespectful way that I will not put up with.

I was referred to Dr. Schechter by my primary care physician. I had suffered for years and my condition was getting worse to the point where I did not have much of a life. Doctor Schecter is a very upbeat, warm, happy person with an awesome sense of humor who can lighten any situation. He and his assistants explained my entire condition and why the need for surgery. My procedure, a sigmoid colectomy, went extremely well thanks to this great Doctor and his supremely expert team at Miriam Hospital. It has been only one week - my recovery is going well and I am already feeling 100% better and super optimistic. The man basically gave me back my life and I will be forever thankful !!

Always professional but also always a genuinely caring individual. I've had 2 colonoscopies over twenty years. The first time was during a snowstorm! Had done the prep and wanted to go but could not dig out of my driveway. Called the office and explained. They called him and he picked me up (I live in Providence) with his 4 year drive and took me to the hospital to do the procedure. He is just amazing!!

Never met Dr Schecter. Called to make an appointment, and was told that they wouldn't schedule an appointment until they got a referral. I told her that my doctor had sent a referral. She said " we never got it": I called my doctor. The referral had been sent six weeks earlier. I called back and she denid that she had received the referral. Then she looked me up and said " Oh wait, its here" Saw nurse practitioner, who is one of the oddest people I have ever met. Will not have surgery here.

I had a colonoscopy by Dr Schechter in 09/2018 and he left two polyps in as he started 1 1/2 late so he didn't have time. Instead, he sent me for a Cat- Scan to get a baseline of the polyps so that in 2 years I have another C-Scan instead of removing the pre-cancerous polyps. The 2 he removed were pre-cancerous. So I went to another Doc a month after I found out. The other Doc removed 7 polyps that Dr S left in. Dr S, always smiles but by his actions, is very disrespectful to his patients.

Dr. Schechter has been my doctor for about 25 years. He welcomes you with a big smile and a handshake. He is very empathetic, takes all the time needed and thoroughly explains everything he will be doing. He is also conservative and does not rush to surgery unless needed. His follow up is great. It is not easy to go to any doctor for coco/rectal problems so I think he stands out in the crowd. You will usually be waiting to see him as he does take emergencies but you will be glad you did :))

Dr Schechter does an excellent job communicating what is going on during my exams and surgery. He runs behind schedule at times but is worth the wait.

Dr Schechter was the on call doctor for my mother after surgery in 2012. He wanted to release her from care the day following Colo-rectal/colostomy surgery, without any aftercare plan. I contacted him with my concern & he asked me Where I attended Medical school. I emotionally and angrily told him that he was releasing her too early & that we'd wait for her actual surgeon to be back before her release. He told me This is not a hotel. The nurses agreed that it was FAR too soon. He was AWFUL.
