Arrogant and Combative
I have never met a more combative doctor. The appointment started with him constantly interrupting and just got worse. He doesn’t have the ability to calmly explain things. He gets defensive if you ask him any questions. Spoke to me the whole time in a condescending manner. Completely disrespectful and unprofessional.

I knew going into my visit that Dr. Mayer has a poor patient review rating. I do not feel all were justified in my case, but he didn't give me anything to work with either. There is nothing "special" about his practice or methods. His follow up is well below average. It is clear he does not have the patients well being as his best interest. I gave him the benefit of doubt (shame on me). He fell short. See at your own risk. Heed others' warnings. I would not recommend. See someone else.

I went to Dr. Mayer five years ago with intense lower back pain and he really helped with a plan of rehabilitation. He gave me a cortisone injection which relieved the pain and allowed me to get back into physical exercise to keep myself in shape. Recently, I did some stupid exercise routines (excessive jumping and kicking) that caused the pain to reoccur. I went back to see Dr. Mayer again and he helped me get me on a plan to recovery. He listens well and really cares about his patients.

Dr. Mayer is a joke. 9 years of my husband suffering and him telling him that he just needed PT for his back problems. We finally found an orthopedic staff that listened to my husband and we now have a diagnosis and a treatment plan and it's NOT PT. Dr. Mayer has no bedside manner, no compassion and feels that physical therapy can solve everything. If you want a real orthopedic group go to Hinsdale Orthopedics. From start to finish what a professional bunch of employees there.

He had no clue what was causing my pain. Implied my pain wasn’t real since. He pushed 3 injections. When I got worse on the first injection, he told me that doesn’t ever happen and I must be wrong. I finally went to Loyola and was diagnosed with a twisted sacrum. Too bad Mr. Mayer is an idiot. I wasted way too much in pain and too much drugs with no relief. He was very rude when he found out my pain was due to a car accident. He implied I was making up the pain for insurance. HATE HIM!

Dr. Mayer does not seem concerned about pain issues. Seems to want to push for injections without even reviewing results. Felt like he was not concerned with my well being; did not discuss results of my MRI; and did not address my concerns. Still in pain and not sure what is even wrong. Highly recommend you go elsewhere. Staff is horrible.

Felt he didn't listen to symptoms and jumped to conclusions about source of my pain. Condescending at times. Only offered injections without other alternative options. I never once asked for drugs but at time felt I was treated as a drug seeker

Dr. Mayer is NOT providing EXCELLENT care. He is quick to decide on things without listening. When I did have a request, I was told that nothing could be changed. Very uncaring.

I had been having back pain and my back finally went out. So I visited Dr. Mayer, I felt like he didn't listen or seem concerned with the pain I was having. I could barely walk and my blood pressure was pretty high from the pain I was experiencing. He just suggested physical therapy, nothing to help with the pain. I pushed for a MRI and finally got one and found out I had two slipped discs. He seemed surprised and finally recommend injections, which unlike the office visit, went well and helped.

Nice person, easy to talk to and spends time with you. However, he does not take pain seriously. There are many people in chronic pain whose MRIs do not look too bad. He did nothing to help me after the results. I think he may believe most patients are pain medicine addicts. Don't recommend if you need relief!!!

I would highly recommend Dr. Mayer. He really helped me with my lower back pain and severe problems for over a year. Having been through as much as I have since I last saw him, I really understand the importance of and appreciate even more the fact that he listened to me, he did not immediately jump to any conclusions and he opted for conservative treatments first. He is very caring and compassionate, spent a lot of time with me and was very smart. I trust him completely.
