Dr. Stephen Southerland, MD

I had bilat. hip replacement in Oct 2015 by this doctor. I left a review of 1 star in April of 2016, both in this site and at the Rebound site where Dr. Southerland works. As a result of having intense pain in my right hip now I started looking for another Orthopedist to evaluate the cause. In that process I was looking at reviews of other physicians that do hip replacements. When I checked out the reviews on Dr. Southerland I saw that my reviews at both sites were listed as 5 stars. People deserve to know how arrogant and irresponsible this doctor is regarding the quality of his work. Briefly, on my first and only followup visit because of his attitude, as a nurse I noticed on xray the alignment of my right hip was deviated from what it should be, compared to the left hip. Dr. Southerland replied that it was within normal limits and my muscles would compensate with time. Not true. Second, right after surgery I had pain and tingling in both hands for 1 year. He blamed me for this.

Five star rating and I Highly recommend Dr. Southerland! He replaced my left knee and it has healed extremely well. He listens and answers all questions and concerns.

Great. I went for a second opinion and without prompting he completely concurred with my scheduled treatment. What I liked most about Dr. Southerland was that he looked me in the eye as we discussed my issues, and there was nothing rushed about the appointment. Too often now, physicians have their heads buried in a computer and there is a loss of connection to the person. Dr. Southerland felt more like a buddy who wanted to hear my story and give me his advice. When we discussed that I had an appointment with another surgeon to complete my partial hip replacement, he was complimentary and supportive of the other practitioner. When we were done with the consult I felt confident of the treatment plan as well as the physician who would be performing it. I think the best thing I can say about Dr. Southerland is that if he did not instill such confidence in me about who was going to perform my surgery, I definitely would have asked if he would be able to be my attending physician.

I am a huge fan of Dr. Southerland and the Rebound staff. I have had both my hips replaced with excellent results. As a former dancer and currently a yoga and elementary PE teacher, my accustomed active lifestyle has been restored. Dr. Southerland and his team are compassionate listeners and provide excellent care during all stages of the process.

Incredible experience from start to finish!

Excellent service. Sutherland helped me understand what is going on and what I can expect, adjusted medications that made a difference and gave me hope.

Dr. Southerland is one of the best physicians I’ve ever met in my 60 years. He knows your history before you arrive if you were a referral; he’s an active listener, he’s very personable, kind, and respectful. I had a total knee replacement. I was walking without a walker in less than 3 weeks. It has been 3 months now & I’m riding a bike. I will definitely have Dr. Southerland perform any other orthopedic surgery I may need.

Very professional but also caring & personal

I went to Dr. Sutherland to discuss getting a total hip replacement. I am a 67-year-old overweight woman who could not get anyone to help me until I lost a tremendous amount of weight, which would have taken a long time because I wasn’t able to walk anymore without the use of a walker and pain medication. Dr. Sutherland understood that I was between the proverbial rock and a hard place and took my.csse. He was supportive if my situation yet firm with his expectations. My surgery was scheduled and a couple months later I had my surgery which went perfectly, no complications. I have one more hip and two knees to go and I wouldn’t think of going to anyone else but him.

Dr. Southerland is an amazing Dr. He listened and heard my complaints. My previous surgeon was incapable of this. Dr. Southerland is compassionate and focused on the issues. He did a revision and my recovery has gone so much better than before. I would highly recommend he.

I went to Dr. Southerland for a second opinion on a knee replacement operation I had in late January. Dr. Southerland was recommended by my physical therapist. Dr. Southerland checked all aspects of my operation and reported that the surgery was done correctly and that the hardware was a good fit. Throughout the exam Dr. spoke in terms I understood. When I was completed with my exam he concluded I was a slow healer. I went in looking for a second opinion, but left wishing I had come earlier and had Dr. Southerland perform the procedure.

Dr Southerland is the bomb! Had to have hip replacement and he not only did a great job, he calmed my fears w/humor & compassion. I’d recommend him to anyone!
