Still in pain and limp. Great.
I was optimistic going into my hip replacement 'knowing' I had a New England Baptist associated surgeon who appeared to have a good reputation. I set aside my discomfort with the awkward tele med pre op 'visit', also when I learned the surgery would take place in New Hampshire. All that would have been fine if my results were good. It has been 2 years since my surgery, I now have a loping gait and wear half inch lifts to correct this. Since the surgery, I have groin pain when dressing, getting in and out of the car and stepping up. 16 months ago, Dr Murphy conceded I might have an 1 eighth' discrepancy and that the groin pain would be gone in a year. Wrong and wrong. p.s. In the evening post surgery I wasn't well, I couldn't stand without starting to black out. My caregiver called and left a message with the answering service. NO ONE called back. Nor did Dr Murphy call the the next day, or ever.

Great surgeon. Total knee replacement, both knees
Post both surgeries my physical therapists were very impressed with results, much better results than they see with patients who had surgery at local medical center.

I had a very unsatisfactory hip replacement
I have a leg-length difference of 1/2." That may sound minimal to those who haven't experienced it, but I now require lifts in my shoes and have developed painful trochanteric bursitis from altered anatomy and gait. At first Murphy said the length difference would go away; then he said the legs were the same length; then he said one leg was longer, but not by an amount I could notice. He finally met me halfway, so to speak, and acknowledged a 1/4" difference, but excused it as necessary to prevent dislocation. I have consulted other surgeons about a revision due to my deep disappointment; they are certain that I would not have had this unsatisfactory result with them. I am not eager to have another (more complicated) surgery, but meanwhile, I have to live with a lurching gait or odd shoes that don't feel right, and pain. Have needed two cortisone injections in the hip bursa. With every step I take, I am bitter. I have no answer to why his much-vaunted accuracy vanished in my case.

Best surgeon
Dr. Murphy was purported to be world renowned and therefore I expected to have a bit of a wait in the waiting room, one fellow there from overseas. Dr. Murphy was humble and listened intently and had a subtle sense of humor. He gave description of what would happen for my hip replacement. Afterwards, though I am a senior citizen, I could put full weight on my new hip and I concentrated on doing gentle rehab after brief hospital stay. I was completely amazed at the result. My much younger brother had his done a few states south from here and he had more healing time from the entry process. It has been four years and I have been amazed at the outcome. I am awed, respectful and deeply appreciative of the work and time Dr. Murphy put into his craft. He has great gifts.

I would recommend as a second opinion. He is a talented surgeon but distant and uncaring. After numerous Ortho procedures with Dr. Murphy, he decided that he no longer accepted my commercial insurance d/t low reimbursement. He told me to look elsewhere for my total knee replacement. Not a good human.

Dr Murphy replaced my right hip in 2010. He’s replacing my left hip in April of 2018. I’m returning to him because my surgery by him was so successful. His patented minimally invasive approach meant a quick and uneventful recovery. My physical therapists marveled at how fast I recovered. The entire team at New England Baptist is also top notch. I’ve recommended Dr Murphy to quite a few people facing replacement surgery. He is the best in New England.

To make it brief. I've had 2 hip replacements. One 8 years ago by another surgeon. This hip that Dr. Murphy replaced at an extra cost, has given me more problems than the previous hip replacement. I continue to have pain in hip, thigh, buttock and knee. Dr. Murphy seems to care little about the problems and pain I am experiencing post-surgery.

Dr Murphy is an amazing surgeon. He replaced my hip with his minamally invasive surgery using instruments he has designed and has at least 20 patents on them. I swear God flows into his hands during surgery. My first hip replacement elsewhere was a nightmare. Dr Murphys was a miracle. That same night for dinner I enjoyed a delicious bowl of pasta never had a pain and went home the next day was able to take care of myself and my dog. To say this was incredible is putting it mildly.

I have had both my hips replaced by Dr. Murphy. My husband had a very, very difficult hip replacement. When he needed the other done he was fortunate enough to hear of Dr. Murphy and his least invasive hip replacement surgery. His second surgery with Dr. Murphy was so well done and his recovery time was a fraction of traditional replacement . When I needed my hips done...of course I went to Dr. Murphy. You don't have to look any further than Dr. Murphy....the absolute best!

Long wait times for office visits and scheduling. He's a very capable surgeon but is aloof and not easy to talk to. I had 2 total knee replacements with an excellent result on both knees. If he were more personable, I would give him a higher recommendation.
