Dr. Smita Kargutkar, MD

My search for a physician who specializes in endocrinology as well as integrative and functional medicine resulted in my discovery of Dr. K. Her approach is individually based, with a heightened emphasis on exploring all aspects of one's overall health and functioning. She is brilliant, personable, highly professional and committed to the well being of her patients. I strongly suggest that if like me, you are searching for a comprehensive medical evaluation, you consider scheduling an initial appointment with Dr. Kargutkar.

I went to Dr. Kargutkar for bioidentical hormone replacement. I have no doubt that she is knowledgeable but the visits seemed rushed and she does not clearly communicate her recommendations. When asked to slow down, her response is that she has been doing this 23 years….that does not mean much of you are unable to effectively communicate the plan of care to your patients. I had a reaction to the hormones… at first she was responsive but then (just as the other reviews stated) she stopped responding. The same dr that told me how difficult it is to prescribe hormones left me with no direction… most likely because she didn’t know the answer. From what I am reading diabetes is her specialty, she should not be prescribing hormones… now I understand why she was the only endocrinologist I could get I to without a wait.

Dr. Kargutkar is truly amazing. For years, I went to several different doctors who treated one symptom at a time. Dr. Kargutkar went above and beyond. She took the time to get a detailed medical history and explained her thought process in a way that both me and my mom could understand. She was super informative and compassionate. Her staff was sweet and welcoming. Dr. Kargutkar and her staff have been proactive about my treatment and really kind to both me and my mom. Really lucky to have her as my doctor!

Dr. Kargutgar and her staff are exceptional. Dr. K identified the medical issue that has plagued my daughter for years. While other specialist doctors treated my daughter for separate issues, looking at ailments in isolation, Dr. K was able to evaluate the issues as a whole, order the right tests to diagnose the problem, and is now treating my daughter. It is life changing. I also became a patient, because of joint and muscle issues I have had for years… in a short time I am starting to feel better! Dr. K and her entire staff are compassionate, patient and kind. It is truly a blessing that we have found such a wonderful doctor.

I have been treating with Dr. K. for approximately four years since I was diagnosed as Type II...she is wonderful...great sense of humor (which is very important for me) and also a caring, kind and gracious doctor...she's not taking my wife's Federal Blue Cross any longer, but I am happy to pay out of pocket because that's how comfortable I am with her...

Very rare to find a Dr. today who genuinley cares about their patients. Dr. Kargutkar truly cares about her patients. If there is an issue her office staff (amazing) will do their best to bring you in that day. She has been my Dr. for years and I trust her completely with my health. Also, love the office staff!!!

I was seen within a reasonable amount of time. The visit with her was not rushed and she listened to my concerns. Following her advice I not only felt better, but was able to lose over 45 pounds. She is an amazing doctor as well as an amazing person.

First of all, Doctor K's demeanor is welcoming and not in a hurry, but it's her remarkable skills as a Physician that make her a Super Star. Not only did she achieve the perfect mix of medicines for my thyroid condition; she also diagnosed and corrected another condition that had mystified others. Bravo Doctor K!

I have been to many Endocrinologists in the Tri-State area, and then I found Dr. Kargutkar. She is knowledgeable (wihtout being an alarmist), reliable, and accessible. Dr. K. has saved my life probably more than once..maybe she'll save yours too!

Highly recommend Dr K. I originally went to her for hypothyroid management, which is successfully underway. I mentioned my decades-long extreme dehydration, never diagnosed by any other doc. She diagnosed Diabetes Insipidus from my symptoms and prescribed treatment. She’s changed my life.

I have only seen Dr. K twice at this point, but I can honestly tell you that she is already my favorite doctor.....and I have been to many! She is caring, knowledgeable, down to earth, is never in a hurry and best of all, she LISTENS to me!!! Her staff is also very welcoming and friendly. I am SO happy that I found her and I know that I am in good hands!

Dr. K was the first doctor that truly listened to me, she was deeply compassionate and asked questions no other doctor had asked. She put me on the right path for my thyroid condition, tweaking medications and adding in natural supplements that have literally changed my life for the better. I was at the end of my rope and she was the light that turned it around. You never feel rushed and she has a genuine interest in your care. I highly recommend her.

Avoid this office at all costs if you do not want to get scammed. They refuse to accept your insurance and you will pay out of pocket even as an in network doctor. I was told my claim would be submitted after the fact and it never was. This office still owes me money and has been a nightmare to deal with.

Walking into Dr. Ks office six years ago I brought a number of conditions and symptoms not yet diagnosed.I found her to be very knowledgeable regarding her specialties , but, also alternate approaches. She is firm , caring , and open to researching. I have never regretted walking through that door.

Yes! if every Doctor can listen to you when you talk as Dr: Kargutkar does, then every Patient will be comfortable with thier Doctor, well I Love my Doctor because She does exactly that .....

I have been on a long journey attempting to discover why I felt the way I did. Dr. K was more than compassionate and listened to me! Dr. K is thorough and extremely knowledgeable about the body as a whole. She discovered the reason and has me feeling so much better. Love Dr. K and her staff!!

Dr. Kargutkar is an amazing doctor. She takes her time and thoroughly explains things in detail and makes sure that your care plan is perfect for your needs. You never feel like a “number” or just “another patient” with Dr K. I trust Dr. K with my life. Living with Type 1 is very difficult, but knowing I have a strong support system in my doctor puts me at ease every day. I am greatful and lucky to call her my doctor! 10 stars!

Dr Kargutkar may be a good endocrinologist but if you are looking for bioidenticals - steer clear. I think she needs a few more years to be competent in this field. Her knowledge is limited and I felt it was a guessing game. Had to go to another physician who easily answered my questions and clearly knew what he is talking about.

Was referred from my primary Doctor who was treating me with Type 2 and was never really got it under control until I met Dr. Kargutkarand within 3 months she has changed everything for the better. My blood sugars was at a t 9.1 and dropped to a 5.8 and I lost 15 lbs and feel great. She is competent straight forward and very helpful , in fact I am having my mother in law switch over to her. Wish I would have known her sooner to get my sugars under control. Thank you

I find Dr. Karkutgar knowledgeable and innovative. I am very insulin resistant, and she has tried different ways of dealing with it. She is friendly, as is the office staff. Any phone calls have promptly gotten a return call from her or her staff. I have only waited 5-10 minutes to see her at my appointments. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing the services of an endocrinologist.
