Dr. Shu-Yi Liao, MD

Dr. Liao seems more preoccupied with typing up his notes than with actually talking to me. He seems dismissive of how awful I feel all of the time. He refers me to his nurses to 'explain' my medication to me. All they really do is read from the same paper they give me. It is extremely difficult to get an appointment with him. He'll say he wants to see me in 2 months but his schedule is never available that far out and when I do finally get ahold of a scheduler, it can be 4 months out.I will say his team is responsive when I call about the reactions I'm having to the drugs.

I have mixed feelings about Dr. Liao. When I first saw him for sarcoidosis he was very thorough on ordering tests and giving me the best treatment possible. He was easy to schedule an appointment with and responded to my test results quickly. But 2 1/2 years later it’s hard to schedule an appointment with him. It takes at least a week up to one 1 month to hear from him on test results. The replies I do get are quick and they don’t offer me real information. For example I had a cardiac stress test with conflicting terminology on results. His answer was it was ‘normal’ without addressing anything else. It took weeks to finally get an answer from him on why he diagnosed it as ‘normal’ and next steps to take from there. BTW, it was not normal. I feel that he sees terminally ill patients a lot and since I am having major symptoms but not critical, II’m not a priority. My blood work will come back and some items will not be in normal range- but again he says everything is ‘fine’.
