Dr. Shelley Marie Gittens, MD

Recently moved to the area and had our first appointment with Dr Shelley in July. Was there for 2 hours in total and only saw her for maybe 15 minutes. In those 15 minutes, I brought up concern of autism in my son due to behaviors and family history. Was told there’s no way he’s autistic because he will hold eye contact with you. This past Friday 12-1, I called the office to schedule an appointment because I thought my son had hand foot mouth but wasn’t for sure. Was refused an appointment or even the ability to send in pictures of his rash. Told he “has a rash from a virus. It’s not hand foot mouth” given no instructions on how to deal with said virus. Confused as to how she would know it’s not HFM without seeing him or the rash, I took him to urgent care a few hours later to be told he did indeed have hand foot mouth. If you are a young parent she brushes off any concerns you have and you are told that it’s normal. Will be switching pediatricians on Monday.

We typically see another physician in her group, but Dr. Gittens saw my son, 4, today for an urgent appointment via telemedicine. Dr. Gittens was very thorough in obtaining the information about my son’s condition, and she quickly diagnosed the problem. She carefully reviewed the next course of action for me to help my son heal. I appreciate her willingness to take time out of her busy schedule to set up a telemedicine appointment to spare me from bringing all three of my children to the office. I am grateful she was the physician on call for her group, and I would happily work with her again in the future.

Dr. Gittens is a wonderful doctor! My kids are 10 and 7, and we have been with her since they were born! She has been so helpful. She is very personable, and her nurses and office staff have always been pleasant! My only negative feedback is there is always a wait time for appointments, but I know how much time she takes with her patients, and she truly cares about each and every one of them!
