Steer Clear!
I hope by sharing and I experience someone else can avoid a situation similar. I went in to urgent care with obvious symptoms of a UTI. This wasn’t the first time I’ve experienced these symptoms. I was hopeful it would be confirmed with a urinalysis and I would be sent on my way. Dr. Watkins entered the room with what seemed like a chip on her shoulder. Spoke very curt and proceed to question my every word and symptom, telling me “this isn’t adding up”. After multiple times of repeating myself and the symptoms I was having, she reluctantly said I would need a culture to confirm. Never once did she check the urinalysis that had just been done confirming I had a UTI, she ignored the high levels of blood found in the screening and while I had zero back pain insisted I had a kidney stone or “worse” in her words. The tone in which she spoke with was extremely insulting. She devalued how I felt, making sure to express my symptoms did not negate a UTI. Horrible experience!

Uncaring
Dr. Watkins did not show care and concern. I have been sick for a week. She looked in my throat after berating me for not being able to see my throat- she said to scream but I can’t talk! She threatened to use a tongue compresor. So I said use it. She was argumentative about medicine that I have taken before. Keep asking me if I had something on my mind? Like she wanted to confront me. I felt so “beat up” after I left to be seen to receive care. Awful encounter.

Poor Bedside Manner
She has very poor bedside manner. Talks to patients as if they’re illiterate children. Should not be working anywhere that has any hands on patient care.

She maimed a patient through her negligence. She ranted to an accompanying individual how they don’t know medicine and went on to talk about her scholarship in med school. The insult could’ve been prevented through a thorough history and physical and the comments by the accompanying individual would have elucidated the issue. I’m sorry but Dr Watkins, a stroke work up is not all medicine has to offer and who cares about your award. You’re an attending now and now someone has to live with a chronic defect because of your negligence and reactivity. Dr. Watkins, you do not know medicine.
