Bad physician, bad person
Like other reviews (that I wish I had read before meeting her) condescending, rude, over prescribing drugs, bad advice (and getting angry if you don't follow or even ask questions). Only good thing is that after touching rock bottom with her there is only up to go. Our child is doing amazing now, no thanks to her. Even her therapist questioned why an 11 years old was in so many drugs... we couldn't even question Henkel, she treated us like we were ignorants and looked down on us when we only wanted our kid to get better. The next doctor we saw, also questioned everything Henkel had been advicing and prescribing. She took the time to explain what the drugs that Henkel had made us give to our kid were really about, and one of the doses was even for an adult!!! So long story short, worst physician's office you could land on. I would avoid the whole group, since they're able to work with someone like that. Mental health is serious business, wrong person to go get help.

Terrible Experience
After years of seeing Dr. Henkel, I am deeply disappointed about the money and time spent with no improvement. My mental health actually regressed during this time, as I was over-medicated and not given proper advice or encouragement. I did not feel heard, and my treatment was never fully explained.

Amazing physician
Dr. Shamina Henkel is One of the most amazing human beings I have ever met and a very gifted psychiatrist She combines what seems like her life experience along with her extensive training with a practice that truly has been life-saving for me personally. I would recommend her to anyone. She is absolutely a godsend.

It would be hard to imagine a profession Dr Henkel would be worse suited to. She doesn't listen, has an emotional reaction to things she doesn't agree with and makes flippant and irresponsible remarks. She said my daughter "didn't care if she hurt people", to which her step-mom said she was one of the most empathetic and kind people most of our friends have ever met (cause she is THE person who is there for anyone when they need a boost), to which she snapped "I haven't seen it". Her judgmental mindset, arrogance and close-mindedness make it impossible for her to make a fair assessment of a child. I can't tell you how deeply I regret taking my child to her.

I absolutely owe my success in life to Dr. Henkel. I have been seeing her almost 20 years of my life. She is absolutely brilliant and understanding. She always looks outside of the box and does extensive research before she decides what the next step is in your treatment. I have seen other doctors in my life and I have never found one as thorough and intuitive. I am here as an almost 26 year old, appreciative of my parents for choosing her, because without her I wouldn’t be here. If you had told me at 7 years old that I would throughly enjoy and look forward to our sessions, I would have thought you were crazy. But now I look back at my journey and appreciate all the hard sessions we had filled good and bad trials of therapy and medicine, seeing as they made me the successful adult I am today. Mental health is a process and it’s not easy. But trust me, you want your child to see Dr. Henkel. She is worth every penny.

Very condescending, arrogant and not particularly helpful. Her billing practices are very aggressive. At the very least, don't leave a card on file. We were late for an appointment due to an emergency episode with our child. She would not see us and told us to go to the emergency room! She did not make eye contact--just looked right through us and called the name for her next appointment. In fairness, her office was busy but that makes me think that our 30-minute block was probably sold twice. Our charge was for the full amount.

Terrible. As a parent, I feel like she is most concerned about her fees and uses inconsistent billing practices to her benefit

I had been trying to get my depressed teen daughter to seek help for months. She finally agreed to go. Unfortunately I picked the worst possible human to help my fragile child. This woman is rude, condescending and what she may have in book smarts, she lacks double - fold in wisdom. Beware, and do not send an already struggling child to her. I am very regretful that I did.

If you have a choice avoid Dr. Henkel. She is not sensitive to her patients needs, is focused on the clock "I only have a few minutes left" and left my daughter devasted ( a wonderful, positive happy kid who has ADD ) after a half hour session....I was appalled at her lack of empathy, understanding and advice. Took us all afternoon to unwind the damage this MD caused.
