I felt like some of the people on this site: she didn't listen too much to me but just talked and talked. I hardly said a word so not sure how she diagnosed me. She was very anti-cannabis and sent me to addiction counselling. I have not only depression, but GAD and ADHD, also a ruptured disc in my back. Weed is the only thing that helps with the pain. She made me feel like I was an addict or something. My talk therapist even said that she sounds outdated.

Not listening

I was assigned to Dr. Praveen at Kaiser for my Major Depression and prescribed Escitalopram. Unfortunately, I experienced significant side effects, and despite raising my concerns, our sessions were brief (10–15 minutes) and felt dismissive. Her solution was to simply lower the dose without exploring alternatives, which left me frustrated and tired of the medication.I eventually sought a new doctor outside Kaiser, who prescribed Bupripion and carefully monitored my progress with monthly follow-ups. This treatment worked much better, with fewer side effects. Later, after waiting 10 months,I got a new Kaiser psychiatrist who continued the same effective treatment and gave me the care I needed.Major Depression requires a doctor who is attentive, skilled at adjusting medications, and mindful of minimizing side effects to maintain quality of life. Unfortunately, I didn’t find that level of care with Dr. Praveen, but I’m grateful to have found other doctors who prioritized my well-being.

Great doctor!! Happy to have worked with her
I didn’t know this website was a thing, I told my friend about dr. Parveen bc i had an excellent experience w her and when my friend looked her up online these poor reviews came up - So I had to come on and give my 5 stars. Dr. Parveen is an excellent listener and provided comfort when I was sharing my concerns. Kind and efficient, she got me the help I needed. I’d put more stars if I could.

Combative and doesn't listen
Telehealth
Just finished a video appt with her, and I'm so disappointed. Had to raise my voice several times to get her to stop telling me how I was feeling and LISTEN to what I was trying to tell her. She'd ask questions and then talk over me. As soon as she heard that I smoke cannabis, she stop listening and insisted my bupropion and escitalopram don't work because of it. That's not true at all, I've been on these meds for more than 10 years along with smoking cannabis and they saved my life. I made the appointment because I wanted to discuss the longterm side effects of these drugs (headaches, emotional numbness), and she refused to acknowledge any side effects that it bordered on outright lies, even when I asked point blank 'what are the side effects of long term use?' The only side effect she would acknowledge was, 'sometimes escitalopram can affect weight gain.' She embodies everything about Kaiser that makes me not trust them to provide good care.

You Probably Won’t Even See Her
I saw Dr. Parveen once and she told me my OCD symptoms were because I smoked cannabis. Not true. Dr Parveen hardly listened to my symptoms and refused to transfer my old diagnoses. I brought up BPD (what I was formerly diagnosed with, what my mother has) and she instantly shut it down without explaining why. Dr. Parveen also cancelled an appointment we set three months in advance on the day of, two hours prior, at a time where I need to see a psychiatrist to up a dosage and talk about some severe symptoms coming back.

Good luck getting her to even listen
I struggle with mental health and this Dr made me feel worse about my diagnosis. She made me question my sanity and made me feel like a liar. I struggle with bipolar , major depression and anxiety disorder. I felt worse after a phone appointment with her. I think she herself has some mental health issues and needs help. No experienced Dr would go around treating patients with doubt and making them feel less of a human. She was talking over me the whole time, she wouldn't listen to what I wanted to share about how I feel. She quickly prescribed more medication and rushed me through the appointment. I felt like a number on her list and I didn't matter to her as a mentally struggling patient. She scheduled a follow up appointment for me, but I didn't attend it......NEVER again. I am seeking a different psychiatrist.

I saw Shahida Parveen in 2011/2012 when I was an undergraduate at UCSD. She was prescribing me medications at the time and seeing me. I needed a letter to keep my financial aid in order to stay in school regarding my diagnosis and prognosis. I needed the letter to show I was trying to get better and could continue in my program. She wrote me an email saying she hoped the letter would help. I read the letter before submitting and it stipulated I had a poor prognosis. I would've lost my financial aid had I submitted this letter. I saw a psychiatrist at UCSD instead who actually worked with me to help me stay in school and graduate. I am now in a graduate program getting my Masters degree at UCLA. I do not recommend this Doctor at all. She exacerbated what was already a terrible time for me. She does not have the necessary basics you need to work in mental health. I truly believe had I not reached out for help from a more qualified Psychiatrist I may not be here today.

Very unprofessional. She wouldn't listen, she'd rather fill out two or three new prescriptions. At one point I felt she was calling me a liar; she said that a person with ADHD can't be an engineer...REALLY? What a very unprofessional way of dealing with your patients!!!! What do you know about me or where I come from??! Do you know what I went through? How many years it took me to finish my degree?? By the way, this was my FIRST appointment with her. STAY AWAY
