I had a very troubling experience in the ER at Legacy Meridian Park with Dr. Seth Mercer. I returned with worsening gallbladder pain, nonstop vomiting, and dehydration—after being told to come back if symptoms worsened. Despite this, Dr. Mercer dismissed my condition from the start. He read my previous chart aloud without asking about my current symptoms, didn’t perform a physical exam, and refused updated imaging. When I tried to speak, he repeatedly interrupted me. After identifying my wife as my spouse, he stopped making eye contact with me and directed all communication to my mother—ignoring me entirely. It felt discriminatory and disrespectful. During the visit, I experienced a vasovagal or seizure-like episode, which is documented in my history. Dr. Mercer told me, “Your seizures are not real,” and only gave medication “to calm [me] down.” I left in tears, still in pain, and without a treatment plan. Thankfully, another surgeon admitted me later that day and performed the necessary surgery. This kind of care was unacceptable and deeply dehumanizing.

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Seth Mercer. He was rude, dismissive, and gave me little information. He seemed to be in a hurry to leave the room, and didn't even bother to ask me if I had any questions or concerns. I felt like he was more focused on getting out of the room than providing quality medical care. I his rush he incorrectly charted information creating discrepancies in my medical chart. I would definitely not recommend him to anyone.

Very compassionate and excellent communicator.
Mom came to ER with atrial fibrillation and he was careful and communicated efficiently and effectively with the family each step of the process of diagnosis and treatment.

No empathy, no care given, terrible doctor
As others have so well pointed out Dr Mercer is apathetic at best. He makes his mind up before any tests or personal history can be heard. Writes symptoms off to “anxiety”, despite another hospital diagnosing the same thing as an actual medical condition. I would recommend seeing any other provider. Don’t go to Legacy Meridian Park ER, it could cost you your life.

Told the doctor that I had a bad reaction in the past to a certain medication. He told me that it’s impossible to have a bad reaction because it bypasses the stomach. He told me it’s this medicine or basically nothing. I was pain that was at a level 10 I was crying couldn’t speak from pain. I wanted the pain to stop so I said fine do and I asked him you promise this will not give me a bad reaction he said yes. Long story short 6 hours of throwing up eventually blood started coming up. I ended up in another er from having a bad reaction to the meds he gave me,

Doctor lacks empathy and compassion. Doesn't care to use his critical thinking skills. Writes patients and conditions off before any interaction has even occurred. Lucky for him he's in the ED where patients don't have a choice of physician.

Dr came into room with decision before even saw patient. Asked how we even got to ER even though urgent care said to go there as not having anything stay in system and not being able to eat for 12 days. He said yes, 12 days is annoying. Annoying? Seriously. He said have to wait 3 weeks. He didn't like our primary care choice and made that clear. He is the worst physician I have ever experienced. IMO Do NOT go there. He doesn't care whatsoever.

Wife went to ED with severe calf pain and concerned about a blood clot. He ordered an ultra sound but they didn’t scan her calf only her thigh which didn’t hurt. He said she didn’t fit the profile for a blood clot so dismissed it as a muscle strain. Three day later was diagnosed at OHSU with a blood clot in her calf. Could have easily had a pulmonary embolism. Wife is a nurse, refused pain meds. And double covered. Terrible care and misdiagnosed.
