Scare tactics and refusal to continue my treatment
I was looking for a new endocrinologist because I've recently moved into the area from DFW. 5 minutes into my appointment, Dr. Shastry said "Armour is dangerous, I don't prescribe it." I have been on Armour and other natural desiccated thyroid meds for years. It's the only thing that brings me relief from crushing symptoms. My TWO previous doctors in DFW were fine with the treatment and satisfied that I could function on it. Dr. Shastry said "You'll have a hard time finding a doctor around here who will prescribe it." And refused to listen when I said synthetics don't work for me. She offered no suggestions for how I'm supposed to survive a year of not being able to function under terrible hypothyroid symptoms while I "stabilize" on meds that I know from experience don't work for me. No empathy at all.

Helped me out!
Great! Last year I had some problems scheduling my reclast infusion. As a result I ended up having to have an extra blood test—very traumatic for me. I expressed my concern to Dr Shastry. I was very pleasantly surprised when the very next day they called me for an appointment. They said I could come in the next day for the infusion! What a relief!

Schedules & Uses Labs Judiciously
Compared to former physicians, Dr. Shastry schedules labs as often as practicable within the constraints of insurance coverage. I feel more confident knowing she bases her treatment on lab results to maneuver the labyrinth of type II diabetes and its quirks. When other physicians treated me without realistically frequent lab results, there was skepticism, a feeling like it was something of a crap shoot, a shot (no pun intended) in the dark.

Great Tyler Diabetic Doctor – Jul 01, 2022
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Shastry?
Just nope
I had worn a continuous glucose monitor for 3 months waiting for my appointment. I collected data, analyzed trends, tracked patterns. Had a whole notebook full of my symptoms and things I had noticed seem to be cyclical all for her to tell me non of it was related, that glucose monitors are notoriously unreliable(I was under the care of a diabetes counselor) and told I am stupid for being on thyroid meds if my labs are normal...they're only normal because I'm on the meds for hashimotos! I left the appointment in tears, I did three months of leg work hoping she could take the puzzle pieces and find an answer only to realize I am better off figuring it out on my own. What a waste of time and lack of compassion.
