Breast Reconstruction after a double mastectomy
Dr. Ponnuru was very professional and kind during my first visit. He took his time explaining things to me, explaining my reconstruction options. I have seen him once since my surgery and he was still kind and explained why it is important for me to be still and do little activity. I have found him to be an excellent doctor.

Wonderful Doctor!
Dr. Ponnuru is kind and professional, and he always takes the time to answer my questions and reassure me when I have concerns. It is clear that he cares about his patients. His extensive experience as a surgeon gives me confidence in his work, and I would definitely recommend him.

Not a positive experience
I had late stage 3 rectal cancer, and Ponnuru was assigned by KU Medical Center to do plastic surgery, as I had to have a muscle from my upper thigh moved to my abdominal area to fill in where the tumor was to be removed. At my first appointment, his EXACT WORDS to me were: 'I'm going to have to move a muscle from your leg to your abdomen SO YOUR GUTS DON'T FALL OUT.' (Uttered in a tone of contempt). I didn't want to speak with him further. But as any cancer patient knows, the diagnosis itself is overwhelming, and advocating for yourself can be difficult. Instead of reporting Ponnuru and asking for another surgeon, I allowed him to operate on me. I will always regret that decision. I can tell he did a sloppy job by the scars he left. Five years later, I have internal issues related to his 'work.' His manner exudes HATRED. I can't go back in time, but I can warn others to STAY AWAY!!!

Under estimated Dr.
I'm not even sure where to start about Dr. Satish Ponnuru. I met Dr. Ponnuru last year when my breast cancer journey began. I was scared, I was nervous and had no idea what to expect. All I knew that my body was about to change for the rest of my life. Dr. Ponnuru spent a lot of time with me, getting to know me, helped me understand what to expect or not expect. Having a double mastectomy was not an easy task and I wanted my body to look as much like it did before the surgery. I had high expectations, but he helped me with the reality of what was going to happen. His compassion for my situation, my fear of the unknown. He reassured me that we would get it right and we'd keep going until I was happy with my appearance. He was caring, real and most of all he was genuine. He's extremely thorough and his perfection paid off! Dr. Ponnuru is an underestimated surgeon and in my opinion he's the best.. I have so many thanks to give him. I couldn't be happier with my results.

friendly and easy appt!
I noticed the reviews here, and what another patient had told me, so I expected him to be a little less friendly than average, but I actually had a really good experience! he was polite, easy to work with, and explained everything I needed to know clearly. I'm really excited for my surgery! I'll try to leave an updated review after.

I received a referral from my doctor to originally see a plastic surgeon at Saint Luke’s due to years of severe back and neck pain due to the weight of my breasts but decided to change it to KU instead which I regret. I should’ve done research and asked to see photos but deal with social anxiety and I was excited to finally have a reduction, I just trusted it would go well. My nipples are too high and scarring from the incisions look sloppy, I’ve cried about it for a while. I wish I would’ve stuck with the original referral to Saint Luke’s and did better advocating for myself and asking questions. I’d never had surgery and didn’t know what to expect. I plan to get a revision but by another doctor, he made me feel like I was bothering him during follow up visits when I alluded to being concerned with how they looked. My concern now is I don’t know if a revision is covered through my insurance like the original surgery (that should’ve been done correctly) was.

Lack Of Care- Part 6
I really am not here to drag his name or the clinic through the mud. I just want people to be aware that there are providers doing gender-affirming surgeries out there who will treat you with kindness and respect and not like you’re a paycheck. I know it is hard in the midwest as our options are limited, but if possible I would look elsewhere prior to committing to KU. If KU is the only option for you I would strongly encourage you to do your own research on what recovery should look like and how to best care for yourself after.

He has no bedside manner. He made me feel like I was bothering him and wasting his time when I saw him after surgery. I have anxiety and sometime have trouble talking and he made me feel stupid.

I’ve been seeing Dr. P for a year now for breast reconstruction surgery after bilateral mastectomy. I’ve had complications resulting in additional surgeries & he’s been nothing short of amazing! His bedside manner is great & he’s so compassionate. I think he’s incredible!

I had a breast reduction from Dr. Ponnuru in 2016. It went terribly wrong. I was equal in size prior to surgery. After surgery there was 3 size difference between my breast. On the first visit after surgery, he came in to examine me. I opened my gown and the very first thing he said " What did you do ? You must have popped a stitch. " Dr. Ponnuru never took responsibility for leaving me disfigured. He only wanted to point blame at me. I ask several times at several different visits "What happened? " He never was able to give me a valid explanation of why my surgery had went so wrong. This surgery has left me very insecure with painful scars, physical and emotional. I would NOT recommend for any type of surgery.

He was super friendly and answered all my squestions. I had no doubts after meeting him. Going into surgery i was also treated well. After I saw my incision a few days later. I noticed the stitching was uo and down like a heart beat. He did not keep a gao in the front. He did a line across my chest from under my armpit to the other one. The lining wasn't anything near straight. The ends under my armpits have nettle stitching nipples on the ends. I have one chest muscle which still could fit an A cup Bra. I was not impressed with his stitching work at all. I would not recommend.
