While Dr. Vorster is good at explaining things in terms you can understand, in my experience, he’s not willing to scratch beneath the surface to find out what’s going on. I saw him for my hydrocephalus. He told me that we tried going up and down on my shunt and neither worked, therefore he couldn’t help me. As I was in pain every day above a 5, he also told me that as a woman, I can deal with pain that men can’t and I had to soldier on. Needless to say, I found someone else who was willing to do more than just the basics.

This man gave me my life back
Dr. Vorster is amazing. After going through my local healthcare providers who were not educated enough to diagnose my problem, I decided to seek help at Cleveland Clinic. Dr Vorster was not only able to diagnose me but also told me all of the symptoms I was probably having relating to it! We did additional testing to confirm diagnosis and he was 1000% accurate. Surgery was performed and after dozens of years of issues, really a lifetime, Dr. Vorster has given me my life back! This man listens to you and takes everything seriously. He does not rush you in and out of his office to rack up patient visits. He doesn't leave until he finds out what is wrong and how to fix it. I suggest if you are having problems with lesser educated 'professionals' that you contact the Cleveland Clinic. Everyone here truly wants to help you. Dr. Vorster thank you for seeing me and helping me eliminate this life long problem!

Poor bedside manner
I usually don't write reviews, but I will make an exception this time. My mom had to have surgery that required going into the spinal column. This was my mother's first major surgery. We had family come out of town to be here as well. So, with family being in another state, they never met any of the surgical team. The surgery took over 10 hours. We waited in the waiting room. After the surgery was complete, we were all relieved that the surgery went well. Now, we are all anticipating seeing the doctor come down to speak with us and give us an in person update of things. Dr. Vorster never came down to see us. We only got a phone call and he spoke to my brother in law about the update. To make matters worse, we over hear other visitors in the waiting room being told that their doctor will be down to see them. Not a PA, resident or anyone that was in the operating room, came to see us after the surgery. I work in the O.R. so I know the doctor had time to speak with us.

Absolutely disappointed
Had to wait almost an hour after the appointment time, which I could excuse if the appointment actually went anywhere. All he did was talk in circles and not give me solid answers. My main reason for going is because I have a condition causing me pain that has gotten progressively worse, causing me to frequently miss work. His response was to just wait and see and to check back next year.

Nice and informed doctor!
My husband I saw Dr. Vorester today and were impressed with him and his staff. The good doctor spent adequate time with us explaining as we went along. He listened, was attentive and compassionate. We would highly recommend him.

Lousy spine surgeon !
Did a fusion on my spine in 2012 and have had nothing but problems since then. After ruining my spine he left for Africa ! I am NOW on the verge of becoming permanently paralyzed ! DO NOT let this so called DR work on your spine ! It's the WORST choice you could ever make !

Dr. Sarel Vorster has been nothing but an absolutely amazing doctor. I was diagnosed with a tectal plate glioma causing hydrocephalus therefore needed an ETV to drain the fluid. I was beyond nervous and wanted to cancel the surgery 1 week before and he opened his schedule to talk with me through everything after we had already discussed it. I was so scared as it was my first surgery but Dr. Vorsters bed side manner was so calming and peaceful he was reassuring as I was going to sleep, talking to me in such a gentle manner knowing I was terrified. Through everything him and his team were thorough in explanation, very supportive when I was indecisive about going through with it, and it helps he has a sense of humor. When he was inside my brain he said he saw “no bad thoughts” I thought it was great. What really helped was when I was deciding he told me to pray on it and I truly respected that. Thank you Dr. Vorster! Thanking the Lord for you!

Akron, I had 2 more spine Surgeries and I am having some new problems, I had totally recovery from the surgeries he performed, The other surgeries was done by another, but he doesn't take my insurance, I would go to Cleveland? to be treated by Dr.Vorster. I have had 2 visits with this doctor. The visits were for an old shunt from 1963 in my head. I have pressure, full and painful filling in it every waking hour. The first visit he got up and started washing his hands as I was speaking with him. The second visit, when I ask him a direct question about the pain I am feeling in it, he redirect the question to my cervical spine problem. I ended up walking out!! I will be contacting Cleveland Clinic and my other doctors to recommend a replacement.
