The Best in the West!!!
I have had both my shoulder replacements from Dr. Koo. I found I'm friendly enough, extremely knowledgeable, thorough and open to questions...and didn't feel rushed through my appointment. I pretty knew what to expect since I had had one replacement. But in the hospital the anesthesiologist came in and recommended an addition to the anesthesia called a 'block' and told me it would ease pain for a longer period of time and I agreed to the plan. Did not have pain the first 3 days but there was swelling in my are that dissipated in a few days. Did not need pain medication and have done quite well! I am not post surgery 3 weeks, in physical therapy. Highly recommend Dr. Koo and the people that made this such a great experience.

Pushed unneeded surgery
Was told by Dr Koo that surgery was absolutely the only option for my shoulder tear, it needed to be done asap, and that the surgery is completely impossible to do with any kind of local anesthetic. A second Dr said my shoulder actually looks great after checking via ultrasound and told me I do not need surgery. In addition, if I did need the surgery, many doctors offer the local anesthetic option. So, I am sure Dr Koo is a great surgeon, but maybe go elsewhere to find out if you actually need the surgery first and check around for options on anesthesia.

Shoulder repair
Dr. Koo and his staff were very attentive to my needs. The process was very straightforward. Communication was excellent. We had to travel over the pass for my appointments and they were very accommodating for me.My injury was complex and somewhat extreme. He discussed the process throughly and my results were far better than I expected.

The best
This is the second shoulder replacement Dr Koo has done for me. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Hie is an expert in his field, patient, and listens to what you have to say. He is calm and unflappable. His staff anticipated all my needs from prescribing meds so they could be picked up in advance to arranging advance boarding at the ferry. On the day of surgery the hospital failed to have rooms available for the surgeries scheduled. The surgical team was forced to charge operating rooms constantly causing delays. Dr Koo and staff treated. Me with kindness and grace as if nothing had happened. The first two weeks after the operation were painful but after that it was tolerable. I highly recommend Dr Koo if you need shoulder replacement.

Fantastic!!
Had a left shoulder replacement, and it has been amazingly good so far. A week after surgery, I use a little codeine at night only, and have unbelievable range of motion already. If my right shoulder ever gives me any problems, I wouldn’t hesitate at all—I’d go straight back to Dr. Koo. Talented, compassionate, and professional. Has a wonderful staff as well!

Through and professional
Dr. Samuel Koo was highly recommended to me by my physical therapist after 2 falls which left my right shoulder injured and lacking strength in my arm after 9 months. My PT advised me to obtain a second opinion. At my arrival, Gema the doctor’s assistant informed me that he needs to review my MRI, not just the written report that I hand carried in. The images, reports, etc. were never received after I called each image center myself 2 weeks in advance of my appointment. So I drove and picked up images. Gema informed me to call when I had images in hand and she can reschedule my appointment that very afternoon! All professionals should do this - view raw images, all info available, to provide best options for a recovery and assist my PT on what exercises to give me that effectively work on specific injured tendon/muscle. Kudos to Gema who worked with me to rescheduled my appointment and no extra charges. Dr Koo listened and took the time to answer all my questions! Thank you both!

Don't CARE Doctor
Unfortunately this is the most Don't CARE physician I ran into. Provided absolutely nothing that would help my issue. Basically his professional comment was "Your issue came with age so nothing we can do about it". WHAT!!!! Why I need to go see Dr. for treatment. I should have save my time and $$$ to stay home and continue suffer until the end of my day. This is the most ridiculous advice I received from any professional. Go look for a Dr. that would care about your health and well-being that would help you instead of looking at you as $$$ when they bill you and your insurance.

Put off repair for a torn rotator cuff and bicep muscle for way too long avoiding Covid and MRI worries. What a waste of time, mobility and healing. Dr. Koo and his team appear to have done an excellent job of getting both repaired, putting me at ease and so did my physical therapist. 6 months out, my garden is fearing me! Total thanks Dr. Koo and team!
