Very knowledgeable about migraine
Idk why these reviews are so negative! Dr. Ashina is by far the most knowledgeable about migraines of all the neurologists I’ve seen. He was very helpful in getting me referrals, imaging, meds and unlike many specialists he was interested in how my migraine is related to other comorbid conditions. He uses dictation for his notes but it didn’t bother me at all - if anything it meant his chart notes were more accurate than other providers.

Felt like another cog in the wheel
I would not recommend. Will cause more of a headache (literally and figuratively in every possible way. I have never felt so disregarded and blatantly overlooked during a medical visit as I did with Ashina. When things he 'prescribed' didn't work, he didn't try to figure out why, he just gave me another pill or thousands of dollar procedure to try next almost like he was filling out a checklist. When his 'solutions' didn't work he quickly referred me out to three different specialists. Diagnosed me based on symptoms on paper not on what I was sharing in person. thousands of dollars later (not to mention nightmarish front desk staff and inability to access him outside of the appointments), I am even worse off from where I was when I went in. Made me even more jaded about the state of our medical field.

Stay Away! Do not waste your time.
I saw this doctor. He is pedantic in his liturgy about migraine taxonomy and not practical or therapeutic. His nurse is also a lawyer. He calls her his 'chaperone.' Who would want to be in a office with a lawyer? He was 30 minutes late for lunch after a four month appointment wait. His nurselawyer made six calls first to make sure I brought a form filled out and second to email it, then to wonder where the email was! The email was sent to the address asserted as well as the nurseJD. Idiots. He wanted it so he could review but this doctor can't read. I have 3-4 headaches day night. He prescribed a drug with a 4 day course and an injectable. Neither worked. Because the meeting was antagoistic, he discharged me while discontinuing sumatriptan which does work leaving me to resubmit request to PCP that wrote the rx. I pity the poor medical students, never mind patients that might encounter this man.

Doesn't care; non-responsive
Left me with unresolved pain for months at a time, and at each appointment was looking to reduce my pain medication out of 'caution' without any working replacement or remedy for daily pain. My prescription (zomig) only covers 9 days of the month, and it's not considered strong or addictive, so it makes no sense to reduce it from a regular monthly supply (12 days) before successfully preventing the pain. When I tried to address the concern about having no abortive medication and no working preventative (none of the preventatives I was given worked), my messages weren't responded to. The office only has a voicemail; no live front desk, and at the follow-up appointments, he insists I wait 3 more months to determine if a preventative that already hasn't been working for a month or more might magically begin to. In between appointments, there's zero chance of communication. Completely useless, and at this point I consider myself to be without a neurologist despite having daily migraines.

I had seen Dr. Flores but she moved back to her hometown so I saw Dr. Ashina. He explained that he wasn't allowed to prescribe me meds without seeing me, so that made sense. I had to wait about 20 minutes but in the scheme of things, it was more than worth it. He figured out my nummular headache (different from my usual migraine) and was able to give me a nerve block that got rid of it. He explained that sometimes it takes a few days to kick in, and he was right. Yes, he dictated his notes while I was there but at least I could hear his diagnosis and description at the time and not read something later and wonder. I don't think patient claims is accusatory. I once had a doctor write that something I had was remarkable. I found out that's medical speak for worthy of being remarked about. I have had only good experiences at this clinic and will definitely keep going to see Dr. Ashina.

Dr. Ashina did not treat me as if I was in the room. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable talking into his dictaphone after he asked each question stating " the patient claims.." The office was in charge of getting approval from my insurance to get an MRI. I scheduled the appointment with Shields for a month later. Shield contacted me two days before and told me they never got the approval so they canceled the MRI. After many attempts to contact the office and speaking to at least 2 people to get the approval, I finally came to my senses and left the practice two months after my initial visit. Do not go to this practice unless you like feeling invisible and do not want help with your pain.

The staff is not at all friendly. They do not listen and certainly do not try to accommodate the needs of the patient. 4 phone calls to get a prescription refilled and was told it would be and then one more phone call to tell me it would not be. Vey poor operation

Dr Ashina is a great doctor if you like someone who never listens to you, scolds you for your medical problems, and in fact literally can’t remember your name or chief complaint. This guy is an incompetent jagoff. I beg you to see someone who will even pretend to give a toss about you.

Obviously he’s only about his wallet. Waited well over a month for my appointment. Severe accident with a truck overturned with the roof ripped off on Storrow Drive with exits closed was going to cause me to be 20minutes late. Going over their “15minute window”. Was told to reschedule and wait another month. This is my opinion really shows his “CARE” of his patients. So No thank you, I’ll find a better migraine clinic

I’ve been suffering from migraines for years. I was nervous to leave my old neurologist and move to Boston because I’d have to start all over again with treatment. Dr. As Gina has put that anxiety to rest. He was very thorough and very concerned with my care. I’m excited to have him as my new neurologist.

This Dr’s primary focus is on scheduling repeat appointments. Patient care is completely secondary. Will not go again and do not recommend
