Dr. Ryan Hoel, MD

I was very pleased with all aspects of my care at TCO under Dr. Hoel. His staff was great and he, in particular, took the time to help me understand the challenges of my surgery. He did an excellent job and I am now pain free. It was a very pleasant professional experience.

I am so grateful to Dr. Hoel for his excellent care before, during, and after my level 3 cervical spinal fusion. He has a very compassionate, open, caring bedside manner and is a top-notch surgeon. His whole team was responsive, supportive, and genuinely cared about my health and wellness.

I had been diagnosed with spinal stenosis and arthritis that was progressing over time. I saw Dr. Hoel at the recommendation of one of his partners. He came into see me prepared to discuss my issues after reviewing the MRI films and symptoms I had reported. He recommended a cervical discectomy and fusion C4-6. Everything was explained thoroughly and I went ahead with the surgery. It went very well and I was able to golf a month after surgery and no restrictions after six weeks. He did a great job putting the incision where it hardly shows. I had very little pain and was prepared for the pain I had as expected due to the procedure. That was reassuring. I would recommend him and his staff as highly competent and caring.

My lower back had been a problem for 6 - 8 months. After the MRI identified significant problems with the L 4 & 5, I decided to consult with a TCO back surgeon. Dr. Hoel, reviewed my records and explained fully and thoroughly what the operation would involve and the recovery. Two to three weeks prior to surgery, I was able to walk less than 30 ft. without noticeable distress. Surgery on the L 4&5 took 1.5 hrs, however due to scar tissue build up, this surgery took an additional 90 min.. Dr. Hoel and his staff, patiently removed each layer of this tissue. Recovery time was as described by Dr. Hoel, primarily rest was needed. Two - three weeks later, my back felt near normal. Its now been 10 weeks and I feel as though I never had a back problem. It feels almost as if it was a miracle. My gratitude is extended to Dr. Hoel and staff. I would recommend scheduling a visit with Dr. Hoel if one has a back issue.

I was suffering from a l4-l5 herniated disc and in great pain. After a lot of therapy and searching I was referred to Dr. Ryan Hoel from a trusted friend. Dr. Joel and his team was amazing! They performed a minimally intrusive procedure in a same day surgical site and immediately the pain and numbness was gone. Recovery was easy with walking only and in six weeks I was able to fully resume full activities. I never imagined I would be pain free again. It is absolutely life changing.

My “back” story started in February of this year. My pain started in my right hip with radiating pain down my right leg. As the weeks went by the pain continued to increase, always in my right hip and leg. The pain increased to the point that it became very difficult to get out bed, stand from a sitting position, and walking any distance longer than a block. Approachable, explains things well, informed

Dr. Hoel is simply the best there in my experience. He was very patient with my questions and thoroughly answered them in a way I could easily understand. He was straight forward and didn't sugar coat the risks and downsides to what was to be a more complex surgery. The day I went in for surgery, I was fully prepared and comfortable with all aspects of the surgery. I was only on narcotic pain medications for two days after coming home as the result of his skill and knowledge. His follow up care and concern has been Stellar. He called me on a Saturday evening to check in on how I was doing after hearing I had a completely unrelated infection about a month after the surgery just be safe. Ive never experienced this level of care from a doctor or any other healthcare provider. I’m very grateful to him for getting me back on my feet. He sets the bar at the highest level.

If I could give Dr. Hoel 180/5 stars I would because that's what he did - turned my life a 180 gave it back to me. Words can't describe how thankful I am to him and his team. His caring and compassionate manor made this nervous patient feel calm and confident. He took the time to explain things thoroughly and answered any questions I had. Before coming to see him I had tried any any all methods to help with my herniated disc. The disc replacement surgery he preformed was life changing! I no longer have chronic nerve pain, headaches and I am able to actually sleep at night. His knowledge and skill made it so I was able to not resort to a fusion and regain function/range of mobility back in my neck. I am so thankful that he listened, believed me and gave me the upmost best care I have received thus far. He is truly one of a kind and miracle worker!

My husband was injured when a chair collapsed underneath him. He had a partially herniated disc. The doctors originally tried several epidural procedures, but they didn't help. Dr. Hoel scheduled the surgery and everything went off without a hitch. After 5 months out of work in terrible pain, my husband walked out of the hospital post-surgery, and was ready to go back to work after his recovery period. He is now able to do everything he could before his injury. It feels like a miracle.

I was seen by Dr. Hoel for a micro-discectomy and subsequent fusion at L4-L5. Dr. Hoel is a very approachable and easy to talk with Physician. He takes his time to assess and explain options. Following my fusion, Dr. Hoel took extra time in addition to rounds to make sure I was doing well. That personal touch goes a long way. I am very happy I had the procedure done.

I was experiencing lower back pain with severe pain in hips and down both legs. Nonsurgical methods were not effective in controlling my symptoms. Dr. Ryan Hoel performed minimally invasive spinal fusion L4-5 with interbody cage. The surgery stabilized my spine, and most importantly alleviated the nerve pain!!! Dr. Ryan Hoel is a true professional. he and Julie ( care coordinator) made this experience as smooth and pleasant as possible.

I went to Dr. Hoel for a second opinion after another back surgeon wanted to perform a back fusion. He looked at my MRI and said that he could do a left hemilaminotomy L4-5 that was less invasive. I saw him yesterday for my six week check up and it was successful. He even called me the day after the surgery to see how I was doing - I so appreciated his compassion. His care coordinator, Julie answered all of my questions, made my post op appointments and was even able to move my surgery up - this was a team that demonstrated excellent customer service.

I saw Dr Hoel for severe leg pain caused by pinching of a nerve. After an MRI, he explained my problem and gave me options for treatment. I chose a discectomy which I had at Fairview southdale on 9/27/21. He met me before surgery and explained the procedure in detail and what I would expect. I had corrections on L3-5 and had a severe obstruction and pinching of nerve at L4. Following surgery my leg pain was gone. I was discharged that day and recuperated at home. Dr Hoel called me twice during that week to see how I was doing. I am now 6+wks post op and doing very well. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Hoel. He was very thorough giving complete explanations and what to expect in my recovery. His staff is excellent and I found the Chaska office very pleasant.

After initial treatments for constant neck/shoulder/arm pain that didn't seem to help much, Dr. Hoel performed a C5-6 discectomy and fusion at M Health Fairview. Wow, my pain was completely gone! I'm now 9 weeks out from the surgery and am still totally pain-free and fully back to normal daily life. Dr. Hoel was very open and honest, yet reassuring, about the procedure and expected outcomes. I was not able to walk even a block without my feet and legs falling asleep and could not stand for any period of time. I had tried therapy and injections, nothing worked. I had an appointment with Dr. Hoel and knew after a few minutes that he was going to help me. We decided together that Spinal Fusion was the best option for me. He took the time to not only explain the procedure to me but called my husband on the phone and explained everything to him and answered all his questions. He explained how the minimally invasive surgery was going to make my recovery better and I was excited for that. After my surgery he visited me every day I was hospitalized and made sure all was going well. I am now 8 weeks out of surgery. I am walking 2 miles every day and can stand for as long as I want. I am 65 years old and I have my life back. The best part is when I went to see Dr. Hoel at my 6 week post op he was just as excited as I was. I highly recommend Dr Hoel you will not be disappointed!

I had a cervical arthroplasty at c6-c7 done by Dr Hoel. I felt assured that I was taken care of and felt comfortable as I could. The pain was so bad before surgery I washed miserable. They got me in quickly and helped me get everything I needed to have surgery. All around a good experience!

Dr. Hole was tremendous every step of the way....from the initial consultation to surgery to post operative care. Very skilled and a great bedside manner.
