Excellent Ophthalmologist
Went to Dr. Hayhurst for a second opinion. He immediately recognized that my eyes were allergic to the eye drops another eye doctor had prescribed, and changed my prescription. My eyes are responding well; no mention of eye surgery that the other doctor recommended.

The right highly experienced Doctor
Had several problems with my eye from another Dr. that Dr. Hayhurst diagnosed right away and corrected the immediate situation, that eventually led to having the right glaucoma surgery for my eye.

Dr. Hayhurst performed two cataract surgeries for me. The first was without incident, and the outcome was good. During the second, he ruptured the back of the lens capsule, which caused debris to be emptied into my eye. After apx. 2 months of post operative anti-inflammatory and steroid drops, I ceased application, as with my first surgery. Within apx. 1 week I began to experience trouble seeing. At this point I had relocated to Alabama, and subsequently went to another doctor. He said I had fairly severe retinal swelling & inflammation, which could most likely be attributed to the cataract surgery mishap. I have now seen a retinal specialist that informed me that this visual impairment could be permanent. I believe Dr. Hayhurst did not adequately address the possible issues that could happen when a rupture occurs. I am now back on steroids and anti-inflammatory meds, hoping the problem improves, but may have to undergo more aggressive procedures if it does not.

I have hereditary glaucoma that was first detected in my 50s. I was a patient before he opened the Glaucoma Institute and credit him with preserving my vision. He is conservative in his approach to treatment, which is fine with me. When medication alone was no longer sufficient, he performed trabeculectomies on both eyes and did cataract removal when that subsequently became necessary. I've always found him and his staff to be pleasant, caring and careful.
