I’ve had good experiences with Dr Alvarez. He recommended that I get the balloon sinuplasty and it made a huge change in my quality of life.

Beware! Dr. Alvarez is not a good doctor!
He is the very worst ENT I have ever had. He was reckless with my health and I sincerely urge you to go ANYWHERE ELSE. Honestly with the mistakes this man has made- he should lose his license.

Doctor visit
I had an appointment for my 9 year old daughter sleep study results and Dr. Alvarez wouldn't see me because he said that I didn't bring my daughter in with me. I asked Dr. Ronald Alvarez why do my daughter need to come in if I'm just getting her results and Dr. Alvarez couldn't give me a straight answer. No one from the office communicated to me that my nine year old daughter needed to be present to get her test results. The front desk staff hardly ever answer the phone and when they do they hang up on you. Someone from the office should have communicated that I needed to have my daughter present to get her test results. I hope that I can save someone else the time and money from going through a similar situation. The front desk staff will also charge you several times for procedures that did not take place. I do not recommend Dr. Ronald Alvarez at the ENT INSTITUTE at Northside and he is not very thorough in his findings, only seen my daughter for one minute and was very rude.

Horrible bedside manner
Dr Alvarez was rude and kept saying "I don't know" when asked questions about cpap. He was not willing to offer suggestions for getting a cpap quickly and treated us like we were trash. I do NOT recommend him.

As a 100% Total & Permanent Disabled Veteran I was given a VA referral for treatment by Community Care to be treated for severe allergies that affected my Sleep Apnea. One day I showed up for treatment and was refused services because my referral had expired! Was also told that if I wanted treatment I had to pay on the spot $300.00 out of my pocket. According to the contract that PROVIDERS sign with VA, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PROVIDERS TO ENSURE THAT THE EFFECTIVE DATES ON THE REFERRAL ARE STILL IN EFFECT AND THAT ANY DISCREPANCIES ARE NOT DEALT WITH THE VETERAN - REFERRED DIRECTLY TO VA. I contacted their office and asked for the BUSINESS MANAGER (a DEBRA, I think) and was always told that she would get back to me. She never did! Now Dr. Alvarez practice has turned my account to a COLLECTION AGENCY for the amount of a little over $1,000, causing my FICO SCORE to drop from 805 down to 689!!! I also suffer from PTSD and this harassment has unnerved me - I can't sleep!

5-Starts for Dr. Alvarez! He was a life-saver for me. He was able to diagnose what another ENT did not see or understand. He went the extra mile, showed great compassion for my symptoms and although we checked everything - He was correct that I had Vestibular Neuritis. 5-stars for Dr. Alvarez!!!

I had a post op visit...went well and scheduled for hearing exam. Went to hearing exam appt. only to have nurse explain I was here for post op. explained I already had post op and was here for hearing test. No audiologist here today....hmmm, so who pays for this worthless appt (post op) that has already been done. You guessed it Medicare. I left promptly and they are bewildered as to why I am not rescheduling hearing exam. Typical for our times.

Dr Alvarez is not a honest Dr.We went there because my four years old snores at night and we wanted to check his tonsils. In the very first appt. Dr Alvarez didn't even check the tonsils. He checked the ears and he said he had fluids in his ears. He sent us to do a hearing test in his office and It "casually" was covered 100% by the insurance. Of course, the child passed the test. NO symptoms of hearing loss or infections. We never gave him antibiotics. We went back to the office and he not FLUID

Don't believe ENT's Institute's claim of "Transparent Pricing" - I was charged for a procedure that was not required. I was not told up front that what should have been a simple office visit turned into an over $300 charge. I thought I was signing for a doctor's exam and was scammed into an unnecessary charge.

Saw Alvarez as a new patient. As an immune suppressed individual, fungal & ear issues are common. I went in w/pain in both ears. He sd I had infection in right ear and suctioned it out, sprayed powder in it. I told him the left ear hurt too. He said there’s nothing wrong with it. I sd since it hurts & I’m here why not treat it too? He didn’t suction but sprayed powder in it, sd come bk in a wk - all of 2 min. 2 DAYS later BOTH ears draining, right one swollen so I can’t chew. Do NOT RECOMMEND!!

I've been a patient of Dr. Alvarez's since 2004 as has my family. He did my sinus surgery, which was very successful, and my daughter's tubes/adenoids. He is a great Dr.! He's very thorough, explains things well, and is friendly and has an easy manner. When I went for a problem this week, they got me right in the next morning and wait time was short. He is very skilled and knowledgeable. I recommend him highly.

A visit in July 2015 resulted in a $500 charge which they submitted to Medicare. Medicare approved $300 and paid them $239 leaving a balance of $61. A year and 2 months after that visit, Dr. Alvarez's office his billing department finally agreed I should only pay that $61 which I did pay on 11/8/2016. Three days later they billed me for another $439.00. (I assume that was the $500 original charge minus my $61 payment.) Now they are demanding on this most current invoice $439. Just outrageous!

Seemingly unwilling to accept Medicare's decision on how much to pay Alvarez, his office billed the amount Medicare didn't approve to my account and never sent me a bill but instead, turned me over to a collection agency in Louisiana. My calls to his office billing department were constantly met with inaction and with me having to explain over and over what they did wrong. Remember, he can only collect from you what Medicare approves of the service. Simply horrid service. Loss of trust!

Dr Alvarez put tubes in my ears a few years ago. I was having problems with my right ear and made an appt. Upon my arrival I was told I would not be checked in to my appt. until I paid a balance on my account. I was never advised of balance which was suppose to have been left since 2012. I wasn't told when I made the appt so I could check it out. I was not allowed to see the Dr. so therefore I am still having ear problems. I am very unhappy with the service!!!

Wait time was well over an hour before I was sent back to an exam room to wait for another 20 minutes before actually being seen by Alvarez. I was not properly numbed by the nurse, hence adding additional time in the exam room to repeat the process prior to the doctor seeing me. It has been a 3 ring circus to obtain my $300.00 deducible deposit back from this office with repeated attempts through the billing department. The deposit seems extremely unethical and much like a scam. Will not be back
