Failed proceedure
I went in to see Dr. Bergamaschi to have surgery to address a bad hemorrhoid. The Dr. recommended a banding procedure instead. A technique that he seems to be pioneering. I was told there was a 90% success rate. After severe pain for two weeks post procedure, it became apparent that I was part of the '10%' failure rate. Bad luck or faulty statistics? Regardless, rather than address the issue (either through surgery or other means) the doctor promptly handed me off as a patient. Told me that I could find another doctor to take it from here. No followup, and I didn't even walk out with a referral. I can honestly say that this was the most disappointing experience I've ever had with a medical professional.

Dr. Bergamaschi saved my life.
Dr. Bergamaschi did what no other surgeon dared. I suffered for 2 YEARS and saw different surgeons however none of these surgeons would operate unless it was 'emergency surgery'. I was severely malnourished and dehydrated. As a result I was hospitalized in 2019 after acquiring the flu. Dr. Bergamaschi 'heard' of my deteriorated condition and visited me in my hospital room. He performed some tests that day and immediately got back to me and my family with the results. He explained the problems clearly and also explained how complicated and dangerous the surgery was that needed to be performed. His willingness and ability to perform the surgery I needed when no one else would help me saved my life. His continuing care and friendliness is remarkable and I am lucky to be one of his long term patients. Thanks to him and his medical talent I continue to be a colon rectal survivor and myself and my entire family are eternally thankful to him.

Top Colorectal Surgeon
Dr. Bergamaschi, has been treating my father and myself since 2019. Unfortunately with cancer the journey is difficult and painful and affects family members as well as the patient. Dr. Bergamaschi is now part of our family. His professionalism, compassionate care, and knowledge makes us feel like we are in best hands. We are very fortunate to have him as our doctor. We thank him every day!

Renowned? By WHO?
On WMC's webpage, they described this clown as a world renowned surgeon. Ha! Not only did he offer me NO advice to help me cope with my situation, but he also stated that he doesn't prescribe pain medicine after surgery! I realize 1) there's an opiate crisis and prescribing guidelines have changed and 2) pain pills can be binding, but refusing patients medicine after being cut or stitched in a very tender area is ridiculous and callous. Maybe Westchester Medical is not as good of a hospital as I thought it was if they'd choose someone like Bergamaschi to be on their team.

I was a patient of Dr. Bergamasch in 2019. He was brought in by trauma surgeon to reverse a colostomy. From the first time I saw him, a 1 minute visit while I was hospitalized with an infection, he was fixated on my weight, sent me to bariatric surgeons who gave shots that got me hospitalized again. Despite my medical records AND a history of healing well from 4 previous abdominal surgeries, he still put me off over and over. I got 2nd & 3rd opinions from my PCP. Both of those doctors, well-respected at 2 top NYC hospitals, said surgery could proceed without issue. I chose between the 2, and scheduled surgery. (I'd been out of work waiting for this surgery since March. The trauma surgeon had said it was good to go in July) I had to get disability forms updated for work, and went to Bergamashi 3 days before my scheduled surgery. He said maybe 2 more months. Had surgery laparoscopically Thursday, home from hospital Friday, well-healed and going back to work. Bergamaschi is a blowhard.

I will always recommend Dr Bergamaschi. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in November 2004. I saw him on a Friday and was operated on the following Tuesday. When I returned for my 3 months check up he found out that I had only had my first chemo the week before he was very upset. He had to operate the following Tuesday. I never went back to see that oncologist again. He would check on me by calling me even at work to check on me. It's now almost 13 years later no cancer. Thank you

I am a patient of Dr. Bergamaschi. I was recommended to him after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer, after a routine checkup. It was the choice that saved my life. I was operated on by Dr. B with the Di Vinci robotic device. I am now 6.5 years cancer free. Dr. B is so knowledgeable about colorectal cancer and explains any questions you might ever have. He has a great bedside manner. I would and have recommended him to anyone in need. He is my doctor and a friend for life. Mike Killarney

Dr Bergamaschi is thorough, professional and compassionate. He takes the time to explain and answer all questions. My surgery went well and the post operative period has been steady improvement. IN addition to his abilities his staff is professional courteous and gets the job done in a timely manner. Overall I wish I did not need surgery but glad I put my health in Dr. Bergamaschi's hands. Thank you!

Dr. Bergamaschi failed to provide the expected level of care for my grandfather when he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2013. His team approach did not include an oncologist, nor did his office make any effort to ensure my grandfather received the proper follow on care after his first surgery to remove tumors. Dr. Bergamaschi allowed his ego to supersede the care of his patient, and as result did not refer my grandfather for chemo or radiation since he claimed he had got all of it.
