Experienced Psychiatrist
Dr. Ketcham, a Georgetown University-trained psychiatrist of the highest caliber, embodies the old-school approach to patient care. If you seek a depersonalized physician group with inconsistent customer service and exclusively oriented towards those with digital proficiency for enrollment and billing purposes then this isn’t the office for you. However, if you’re looking for a humble, practical, and engaging experience in which the psychiatrist serves as both physician, customer support, and billing department in one then you found your man. He will personally respond to your inquiry. He will personally bill your insurance. He will personally meet with you to attend to your needs. It’s a dying breed of medicine not often found. He truly cares and seeks to help you throughout the process.

Great collaborator!
I saw Dr. Ketchum for over 5 years when I lived in DC. I wish I could have taken him with me when I moved. He listened, he was adept at managing medication changes in conjunction with the 15 other medications I take for numerous other medical conditions I have (including a multitude of heart problems). He never tried to force a medication on me, and my thoughts on my treatment were as important as his. I cannot recommend him enough.

I've been seeing Dr. Ketcham for 20 years for medication management. He pretty much saved me, twice, 20 years ago and 2 years ago. One medication stopped working, so we tried several others (which didn't work for long) and eventually went with TMS, which worked. He is persistent, well-informed, and willing to take action to help his patients. He may occasionally seem a bit aloof, but he is not, he can help you. Keep in mind that psychiatry is not really an exact science yet, and sometimes you have to try different treatments to find one that works. And this can take a long time.

I’ve been under his care for a long time (15+ years). He is a smart listener, distills what he’s heard and jointly, with his patient, develops a treatment plan. Provides a comfortable, trusting environment making talking with him easy. He responds to messages IMMEDIATELY. He’s worked extremely well with TMS providers at Johns Jopkins. His coordination with Hopkins has been critical to my improved mental health. I find him to be brilliant, up-to-date on advances in medication management and new treatment options. He is, in no way shape or form, a pill pusher. His treatment plan is well thought out provided the patient is open and honest with him. He shares professional information thus educating, helping you understand what is happening in your brain.

I admit that he can seem a bit indifferent but he’s perfect for a patient like myself. If you’ve had your diagnosis for years and have been taking meds for years and you are educated about your illness & meds-he’s fine. If you’re newly diagnosed, mostly(aren’t)stabilized on meds, not(never)in therapy or are clueless about it all-then it probably won’t be a good fit.

Dr. Ketcham is an irresponsible, disreputable pill pusher. He knowingly and rather frequently prescribed medications no medical practitioner should prescribe to a patient with substance abuse issues. His recklessness has endangered our son’s life, who is now in treatment. I have reported him to the Virginia Department of Health Professions Enforcement Division. A star is required to submit this, otherwise there would not be one.

I've been seeing this doctor since my discharge from emergency situation two years ago where I almost lost my life. Very cool and to the point doc. But never be late to your appt or else he will not see you. Can't thank him enough for the recovery road he allowed me to experience.
