Frustrating
I waited for 40 mins in the exam room, he came in did not examine me, 2nd visit. he interrupted me several times 'let me stop you right there' . did not answer any questions because I could not get a word in. he was in and out in less that 4 minutes. drove 40 min waited another 40 for a 4 min waste of time then drove home in disappointment. Now going to start the process over to get a different doctor.

I'm fixed
I hurt my knee and had no idea what to do. He performed an operation and cleaned up my knee and I'm completely pain free. I'm so thankful I was referred to Dr. Brophy and staff. Although it is a typical Dr. Office and things are rushed, I had done a lot of reading beforehand and had several questions ready for him. 'What do I have to do to ski again?' 'When can I swim?' 'When can I hard plant on this knee?' Needless to say he was great. Answered all my questions, he knew where my rehab expectations where at, and was/is always available for follow up. I'm planning on down hill skiing (hardest thing you can do to your knee) this upcoming winter.Thank you Dr Brophy for allowing me to get back out there with my kids!

Rushed appointment
I waited a little over an hour and a half past my appointment time, and once he arrived, he was in the room with me for less than two minutes. (This is not an exaggeration; it really was less than two minutes from the time when he entered to the time when he left.) This meant a very brief explanation of the treatment plan, no real opportunity to ask him questions, and I'm not very confident in his medical assessment of my situation. I'm not sure if this was the result of one busy day, or if it's a normal aspect of his practice, but am sharing here just in case!

Dr Brophy did ACL reconstruction and provided an excellent surgical outcome. It seems that a number of the poor reviews here have to do with complaints about the lack of time spent during office visits. He is definitely a busy orthopedist. The BJC orthopedic center has high volume, he has clinic only a few days a week (in surgery others) and trains residents/fellows through Wash U. Patients are best served by coming to office visits with questions thought out in advance. There is not a lot of time for chit-chat or to ponder what you might want to ask while in the exam room but, he has always stopped to answer a question I posed during a visit. And, for questions that come up outside the visit, I’ve found his nursing staff to be responsive. In my opinion, it comes down to how much you value the technical skill of a surgeon over his bedside manner - and he is perfectly pleasant, cares about patients; he’s just very busy too.

Horrible bedside manner
Surgeon for a clavicle ORIF. Has horrible bedside manner. Wouldn’t listen to any of my questions and constantly talked over me. Could offer no explanations for the change in my post-op plan and even deviated from the papers they sent home with me from the hospital. I became so frustrated during the appointment that I began to cry. Only choose Brophy if you want to be confused and disappointed.

Not impressed
Doctor Brophy took no time to listen about my injury, spoke way too fast and told me to "take medicine for a month" for an issue that's been a problem for years. This guy pushed me out of his office faster than a barber. Felt absolutely no care from this doctor whatsoever.

So far so good with Dr. Brophy. I had one procedure on my knee with the expectation that a second is a possibility due to the damage in my knee. He wasn't in a rush to cut me open but is the first doctor to actually listen to my issues and care about getting me back to a more active lifestyle. First surgery I was up and walking pain free in under a week. I will be getting the second more involved surgery soon and am not worried at all thanks to his explanation of the procedure. Working with athletes I trust that he knows how to get people back in action quickly After reading other reviews I think it comes down to others not asking questions. Yes he talks fast and works to get you in and out of the office fast. However if you ask him a question he stops and answers all of them very thoroughly.

Went for torn meniscus, was told no big deal, we can fix this, knee great other than the tear. Poor bedside manner, talks too fast, does not take time with patients and misdiagnosed issue with knee. Went for 5 months, spent lots of money, no relief, even after surgery., physical therapy and brace. Then he says need knee replacement. Stay away from this doc!

9 minute office visit that included an evaluation, knee aspiration and steroid injection. Developed a large knot and sought second opinion only to find out steroid was injected into the tissue rather than the joint. He is in too much of a hurry and needs to use ultrasound to guide injection. Will not refer others.
