Review for Dr. Ritha Chea - Johns Hopkins Internal
I recently had a disappointing experience with Dr. Ritha Chea during a visit aimed at addressing my sister's needs related to Williams syndrome, a rare condition that presents numerous challenges, particularly concerning heart and gastrointestinal issues. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. It became apparent that the staff lacked the necessary training to effectively support individuals with disabilities. I accompanied my mother to help her navigate this increasingly complex situation, as she struggles to manage appointments and medical information. However, instead of receiving the understanding and support we hoped for, we were met with dismissive responses. When I explained the complications my sister has been experiencing and recent visits with her primary care doctor, Dr. Chea questioned our purpose for the visit, suggesting that since my sister had a primary caregiver, our presence was unwarranted. I had understood that we were seeki

Absolutely The Best PCP One Could Imagine
After getting dropped from my former PCP in the Hopkins System for going over 3 years without a visit, I got Dr. Chea, and she was the best - totally worth the drive to Glen Burnie! Our annual visits were never rushed, we had real discussions, she cared, she answered questions, etc.. She seems to be on top of the game with regard to testing and modern treatments and health management. I felt she was direct and clear, as well - no hinting or half-suggestions. I'd see her again, if I ever return to the area.

First Time Patient--Completely Satisfied
Dr. Chea was personable, intelligent, on time, no-nonsense, and respectful. I have blood pressure that responds quickly to stress, and it was high when the PA took the measurement when I arrived in the office. By the time Dr. Chea took it near the end of our time together, it was normal (dropped 30 points!). This is not something I can control and was indicative of my comfort with her. I have confidence that she will provide me with the best possible care.

Condescended to in my meeting with her
Dr. Chea handled my request for weight loss medication with a complete dismissal of my concerns. I have been seeing her for 14 years and her bedside manner has declined over the years. She was very rude. She told me I was there for a "quick fix" and that she would not prescribe me weight loss medication. Just unbelievable. I do not recommend her for a doctor at all.

Can never get a timely appt when visit is urgent
On average have to wait 5 days for an urgent appt, end up going to patient first for care.

I have been seeing Dr. Chea for several years. As a doctor, I think she is good— knowledgeable, thorough, is open to answering questions, etc. But from the first time I saw her, first & foremost, mentioned my weight! The last time I saw her, she questioned every single medication that other Hopkins doctors have prescribed for me, but worse than that, she berated and belittled me constantly about my weight throughout the entire visit. I’m a middle-aged woman and she spoke to me like I was some stupid, ignorant nobody. Yes, I am overweight, but I didn’t need to be embarrassed & belittled by another person that I’ve put my trust in, just because she has MD behind her name. I was so upset the rest of the day, that I had difficulty returning to work & barely spoke to anyone the rest of the day. Not everyone can achieve slim perfection! My husband said we don’t need to pay someone to make me feel like this. If you have similar issues, I encourage you to establish care with a different PCP.

Staff is lovely, kind and friendly. Chea is demeaning to patients, treating adults as she would a child. She is offended by questions; she takes them as a challenge to her self-ordained god-status, forgetting that she is hired by the patient and at the least we should be able to discuss our concerns and thoughts without being shamed and belittled. Won't be back which is disappointing because it is close, the other workers are great, and I like the JHU association. But she is a brat.

Dr. Chea is very knowledgeable - and she lets you know it. Her mood and attitude change and it's hard to tell sometimes. When she is in a good mood, she will be more patient with answering questions, but may sound condescending. I just brush it off because she considers my child's health first. She listens and attends to your concerns, but her bedside manner leaves much to be desired. If you are a parent or patient who likes straight up facts, she's a great doctor. If you are a new parent or someone who tends to be on the cautious side, you may want to look somewhere else. Expect long wait times for getting phone appointments. Front staff is quite pleasant in person, but not so much on the phone sometimes. It happens. The nurses on the team are very considerate and attentive.

My family has been with Dr. Chea for over 10 years. She knows my families' medical needs inside and out. She never hesitates to ask about each member's health and personal well-being at every appointment. Dr. Chea is no-nonsense and airs on the side of caution. We are completely confident in her and appreciate the time she takes with each of us.

Not a good visit. Took my sick daughter. We thought she might have strep. Strep test came out neg. Dr asked if she has been around anyone sick. We told her girl on soccer team may have flu. She got very agitated and said we should have said that from the start. Our daughter goes to school with 2500 kids that could be walking around with a any type of virus. She was rude and nasty to put it nicely for the remainder of the appt. Also not personable at all. Surprised she is a pediatrician!

I had no particular problem with Dr Chea, but you may expect her assistants to dehumanize you ... treat you like cattle. I fault Dr Chea for not effectively recognizing/addressing/correcting the problem. I'll not return.

She does not have good interpersonal skills and can be vindictive if you are late for an appointment. As a first appt. with no one in the waiting room, I waited 1 hour and 20 minutes in the exam room when I was 5 minutes late. (I got stuck behind some school bus traffic and called the office to tell them I would be a little late, and they said that she would not like that...they were right.)

Knowledgeable doctor, but I would not recommend her. She is very curt and doesn't really take the time to get to know her patients. The visit is more about her thoughts and opinions and she doesn't like WAISTING time talking to her patients.

I highly recommend Dr. Chea. She was pediatrician for both of my children from birth. We only switched pediatricians because of a move. She is very pragmatic, and will always put your child's health and development first. She has a great demeanor with both parents and kids. If its a concern for you, she is breast-feeding friendly. She always takes the time to field questions and give good explanations. Wish we could have kept her!
