Dr. Richard Phinney, MD

Dr. Phinney was really great. Listened, answered questions, spent a good amount of time in the room, was on time and left us with a plan and what next steps would be. Highly recommend him.

At first, Dr. Phinney may seem a bit unconventional, but you will soon learn to appreciate his expertise. The genuine concern he has for his patients is refreshing. He obviously considers each case as an individual situation…as individual as the person being treated. The amount of praise, we have heard from his peers, is nothing short of amazing. This doctor will help so many people during the course of his, hopefully long, career.

I was referred by a family member who had a great experience with him. He spent a lot of time explaining all my test results and options, (he even wrote notes for me). He made my husband and I feel much better about my diagnosis. I would highly recommend him.

We consulted Dr Phinney about brain tumors. He was compassionate, very straightforward, realistic, comfortable in what he was able to offer while very accepting of possible alternate routes, open to our trying 'all the possibilities'. His emphasis was on making the most of the time left, living it, not chasing straws or false hope or enduring 'last ditch' heroic efforts. He knows his stuff well enough that he can hear & consider additional views, concerned most with what works best for the patient. While it was made clear that the prognosis is not good, we left feeling inspired and better able to communicate across differences within the family. It's no surprise that his office staff expressed tremendous enthusiasm and respect for him. We recommend him without any reservations.

So very disappointed. My step mother lives outside of Detroit but chose to see Dr. Phinney in Toledo for treatment. She is newly diagnosed, had her first chemo treatment on Thursday, 3 days later had to go to ER for fever. He would not speak to her on the phone, did not call to check in, after 6 days in hospital she drove 2 hours for follow up appt with him, she was 20 min late due to heavy traffic, and he LEFT! EXTREMELY poor, inconsiderate care considering her state. Would never refer to him.
