Really sad. He's the best candidate to be a poster child for why the VA should allow Veterans to seek care outside of the VA. He has no one to compete with since he is the only person near who has his position. He has no reason to provide quality care, since his patients seldom have alternative choices for pain management. Everything about my experience with "Doctor" Richard George Junior was depressing. It was so apparent that he really did not care about me as a patient. He had no interest in helping to diagnose or treat my symptoms. After my experience with him, my confidence in the VA to monitor their staff is shattered. I am stunned he is still afforded the opportunity to care for humans. If not protected by the union or the bureaucracy of the VA, he would not be allowed to continue treating people. Awful steward for his colleagues in medicine.

Shameless Dr. GEORGE Marion, IL VA – Feb 01, 2020

Richard George is one of the sort of employees who gave the VA such a HORRIBLE reputation until about the mid-1990s. When I first went to the VA in 1992, healthcare providers were mostly like him. Since then things have OVERALL improved dramatically, but there are still a few bad apples, and George is the WORST I'VE EVER RUN INTO! He is in the Pain Management section, but HE IS NOT A CERTIFIED PAIN MANAGEMENT PHYSICIAN. HIS ONLY BOARD CERTIFICATION IS ANESTHESIOLOGY. And he MISREPRESENTS HIMSELF as a Board-Certified Pain Management physician, but online it's ONLY ON THE CREDENTIALS HE POSTED ABOUT HIMSELF. All listings online put up by professional medical sites list ONLY anesthesiology. I contacted the Board he claimed in one listing to have been certified by in Pain Management. HE IS NOT CERTIFIED. HE IS A FRAUD! IMMEDIATELY after my one and only appointment with him I went directly to the Patient Advocate. She said she gets AT LEAST ONE SERIOUS COMPLAINT ABOUT HIM EVERY SINGLE DAY

He has earned every negative comment and is an extraordinarily poor doctor. He is preventing patients from receiving adequate pain management because he refuses to treat pain. I have never read a single positive patient review regarding his treatment of veterans and I have had extremely bad experience with him. I refuse to see him and will suffer with life altering pain because of it. My pain has been so bad that I have seriously considered ending my life on many occasions. I gave my all in service to my country and was probably wrong to have ignored my injuries and severe pain in order to remain active and deployable. I routinely refused narcotics and on the few occasions that I did agree to surgery, I returned to duty the same day. Most combat arms officers that I knew behaved similarly and never considered taking a knee. We also operated on the assumption that we would get adequate treatment on retirement as we had earned the privilege of a reasonable quality of life as a reward.

I don’t know how they keep this Doctor at the VA. He is exactly what is wrong with the VA. He does not care for his patients or their quality of life. I put in a complaint last time I seen him but nothing ever happens. I have changed from Marion to Nashville because I refuse to see that so called doctor again. I hate seeing people like that because there is no telling how many more Veterans have suffered because of him.

Sadly, Dic George Jr is the only person the VA has to offer to Veterans in the area. I believe he has an inflated sense of entitlement. He will pass unwarranted judgement on you; projecting what he wants to believe about you. If the first thing which he guesses is incorrect, then he will sideline your concerns and discount your efforts to want medical treatment or evaluation. Although he may be of assistance to some, from my experience, he is doing a disservice to others. Checks and balances
