My teenaged daughter ended up in the ER very sick after a botched surgery that had been done 2 weeks prior across the country. By the time we arrived she was near death & he saved her. She was hospitalized about a month, had several months of wound care & recovery. Not only did he save her life, he also saved her addt’l physical scarring. He took the extra time & put in effort because he truly CARES about his patients. Her condition was so complex, it was hard to understand. So he would sit down & go over it step by step, 100 x & was happy to do it. he did it every time, every step of the way. Not only that, but he had a mess to fix. Had it not been for his extensive experience?she wouldn’t be here. He is knowledgeable, relatable, compassionate & empathetic. to the degree that he’s using his own family to try to imagine & help us problem solve/make best decisions. He doesn’t make you feel bad if you don’t know something. Oneof the few in it for right reasons. I’m not easy to plz!

I had surgery back in Aug of 2021. I thought this dr was great but after my surgery about 5 months he refuses to see me or give my scripts I need smh seems only after money not care

Dr. Fermelia is a amazing doctor with great character and personality. He took so much time with me, that was an unexpected treat and he explained things so well. Put me at ease for my surgery.

I met Dr. Fermelia when I was in the ER experiencing extreme abdominal pain. Dr. Fermelia looked at my tests and did not hesitate to suggest surgery right away. He was confident he knew what the problem was. I certainly agreed because I could feel that the pain, while under control, was still there. The rest is history. After surgery, the pain was 100 percent gone and no more pain medicine was needed. I feel unbelievably grateful to Dr Fermeila for his expertise in finding the problem and acting with haste. I give Dr. Fermelia 5 stars and recommend him highly.

Dr. Fermelia was very knowledgeable and did a great job at explaining my surgery prior to the operation. He was kind and caring and very prompt. His office staff was very polite as well! They did a great job at making sure I was ok after the surgery as well!

This is the man! He shows compassion, explains in detail and takes time with his patients. I would have him for everything. Definitely 5 stars! Thank you!

He performed my son's appendectomy a couple weeks ago and everything went great! He gave me his cell phone number before the surgery and told me that I could call him any time to ask questions and to bring my concerns to him to potentially save me another trip to the er. I appreciated his willingness to be available and to give advice and help.

Dr Richard Fermelia is the best,He carefully and patiently took time with me to explain every detail of the surgery and answered my questions. Even drawing a picture for me as a visual. I am 73 years old and have seen many Doctots but none of them like Doctor Fermelia giving me the time to understand. The surgery went great and nine days later I am feeling good. Dr Fermelia performed two surgeries on me, ruptured appendix and blocked biles within a week. I’m so grateful because he was god sent. Never have I met a caring loving doctor like him. Dr. Fermelia performed my appendectomyn at St Elizabeth Hospital on July 9th, and my daughter and I both are very pleased with his professionalism as well as how personable and friendly he is. VERY highly recommended as he is polite, caring and knowleadgle in his career! Very good surgeon.

Dr. Fermelia recently removed my gallbladder after I was admitted to the hospital through the Emergency Room. Dr. Fermelia met with me prior to the operation and afterward and answered all of my questions about the operation and what I could expect during recovery. I appreciated his kind, calm demeanor, especially as this surgery was unexpected. He really put me at ease and I felt 100% confident in his knowledge and ability.

While in the hospital for another condition it was discovered that I had an issue with my gallery ladder. Since the condition was not acute, and my wife and I had a planned trip to Alaska in the near future, Dr. Fermentation prescribed medication for my symptoms. After my vacation I scheduled the procedure. The procedure and recovery went smoothly. I highly recommend Dr. Fermelia, he is professional and friendly.
