He instilled faith in me that he was the best
I had brain surgery in 2010 and another surgeon didn't want to do it. Dr. Hanel told me exactly how he would go about it and being a mechanic myself, it made sense to me. I had no doubt he would handle it with complete success. The surgery went well, and it got me off of the anti-seizure medication that can wreck your liver and a list of other side effects. He is the best brain surgeon, in my opinion, in the region and definitely one of the best in the country. Plus, he is just a good person and has a great bedside manner.

The best neurosurgeon ever!
Dr. Hanel is amazing. After a cerebral aneurysm rupture he saved my life through many complications and surgeries. He is extremely talented, kind, caring, and compassionate. He has given me 15 years of life with no cognitive impairment when I had a 10% chance of survival. I wouldn't trust my brain to anyone else.

This Dr agreed to see me for my initial diagnosis and follow up. He assured me he is one of the few knowledgeable about my condition. However, I called the office for 10 months to get them to send medical records to my doctor to work out insurance approval in time for my appt. But they never did it. Even my doctor tried to call for me. His MA repeatedly tried to send me for the wrong test. In the end I didn’t get an appt after an entire year of trying. At this level I expected more care. This may be a good Dr but he leaves patient care to an incredibly inept staff.

Dr. Hanel has been amazing the last year that my Dad has seen him. He has communicated everything so that our family would understand what was happening with my father and explained our course of action to our satisfication. I was unable to go with my Father and Mother to most of the appointments due to work and Dr. Hanel was willing to talk with me and allow me to facetime my parents during my dads visit. I was able to go with my parents yesterday and Dr. Hanel and his Nurse Practioner were amazing as always. The medical asistant was not so great and it felt like we were inconvincing her. We also had an issue with an Employee at the Radiology sign in desk at Baptist and also with a staff member working the entrance. I will say the Patient Relations Rep and the Director of Lyerly were amazing in listening to our issues and trying to resolve everything for us since we live 3 hours North of Jacksonville. I would recommend Dr. Hanel to anyone needing Neurovascular surgery.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Hanel?
so disappointing, 1st visit was forthcoming with info- said prior doctor messed up and he would do all he could to repair mess- said he told doctor off- after that he shut down, would not explain anything- just got my medical records and nothing is in there- was told he is so good, really???? wont answer any health questions, cancelled last three appts since office failed to get ins approval- to say disappointed is a gross understatement

My mother went in for a biopsy and came out a vegetable. At 58 years old, her life was destroyed. Business, money, retirement and 48% of her brain are gone forever.

actual patient in Orange Park, FL – Dec 09, 2017

God saved my life by having Dr Hanel available 2 years 4 months ago. I had a massive brain bleed on the front right of my brain (I can't remember what they called it) About a week after that, I had a blood clot travel through my lungs (pulmonary embolism), where the physical theosophists from Brooks Rehab were walking me down the hallway. I woke up just before they were implanting an IVC filter into my chest. I called my family 2 times on consecutive days to say goodbye. Today, I'm 90% cured!
