Great doctor
Dr. Afzal is punctual, attentive, knowledgeable, and always has time to answer my questions, explaining medical issues in a way that is calming and easy for a layman to understand. I know when I make an appointment and take the PTO off work, that will be the time, and I won’t be late returning to work ( unlike Dr. Jonathan McCoy, where appointments consistently ran hours late). The front desk staff is always pleasant and helpful. My husband and I love going to Dr. Afzal!!

Horrible, he doesn't listen I explain to him I eat a healthy diet and was gaining weight and he hands me paperwork on how to diet. He tried one test and just kept telling things shouldn't be an issue. I had back pain he had me get an x-ray and they found degenerating discs in my back his response shouldn't be a problem. I had blood work done and it showed high liver enzymes so did an ultrasound I had a fatty liver he said shouldn't be a problem cut back on drinking and I don't drink so he said must be because I'm overweight but again shouldn't be a problem. I collapsed literally talking one minute next thing I know I'm being picked up off the ground with a bloody head I tell him and in his great wisdom recommends a weight loss clinic. That was the final straw, I had to bring everything up for medication I had high blood pressure he didn't tell me my dentist did and I had to go back to him to ask about it, I had acid reflux the ENT told me and again he knew and didn't say anything.

Good First Visit Experience
I haven't had a PCP since I was in college and am currently approaching 39, so it's time to adult and make sure things are good. Dr. Afzal was quick and attentive. He answered all my questions and listened to my concerns. I felt validated and heard. I hope he stays put.

Excellent physician
I am a patient of Dr. Afzal, as is my husband, both of my adult sons, my mother and brother. We range in age from 28 to 81 years and have never had a bad experience with Dr. Afzal. We are all very happy with him as our family doctor. He has seen us through various difficult situations. He is a very caring and kind doctor. Never have we felt rushed by him. He also makes himself available to his patients via the patient portal. Absolutely an wonderful doctor.

Never Again
My first visit ever with him, he entered the room, said his name was Dr. Afzal and sat down at the computer. No eye contact, no smile, didn't ask how I was doing, nothing. After about 1-2 minutes of typing and clicking, he looked over at my stomach and said, "You need to lose weight" and immediately went back to typing and clicking. Thanks Dr. Obvious. He has zero bedside manner or any manners at all. I don't feel like he listened to anything I said and was trying to get me out the door quickly. See someone else at this office, the others are much better.

Wish I could give more stars
Love the staff and I have never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seen. Dr. Afzal seems nice enough but always seems to be in a hurry to get through the exam asap. He just checks his notes, makes sure medications are documented and rushes through the exam. He doesn’t take the time to listen or ask about any concerns. Wish his bedside manner was little better.

Does Not Listen to Patients
I saw Dr Afzal for an extremely sore throat (sharp acute razor blade type pain). He advised that it would go away and that I could take Ibuprofen for the pain. I advised I have CKD and was advised not to take nsaid... he said I could use acetaminophen (isnt that in my patient chart???). Said it would go away and it was just a sore throat. I tried to express that I am not a spring chicken and I know the difference between a sore throat and something more serious. Totally ignored. Ended up in the emergency room 1.5 days later with tonsilitis. My throat was partially closed from swelling and unable to swallow food and had extreme difficulty breathing. Will never go to him again, I have a better shot with a Nurse Practitioner at a 24 hr clinic. Almost as disappointing was that my main provider was trying to stick up for him a little at my follow-up visit. I guess lessons learned are not a thing in the medical field?

I cut off part of the tip of my finger including the nail. I was treated in the ER on Saturday and saw him Tuesday as instructed. He took of the bandage and the bandage was stuck to my wound. I informed him the GelFoam had been applied. He told me to go home, soak it in saline solution, and apply a bandaid. A bandaid. I cut off part of my finger! The attached photos shows how I was sent home. I left crying. I went straight to Patient First where they actually treated me. GelFoam is supposed to fall off when ready. The doctor should have known that. And my visit summary also said my Dx was a laceration without damage to the nail when I very clearly said that I cut off part of my nail as well. I was treated at the BWMC ER and they didn’t give me the proper follow up instructions. I was totally failed by BWMC and this PCP. Thank goodness for the Pasadena Patient First. But I am extremely unhappy with my visit today. He’s not my normal PCP nor will I see him for ANYTHING again.

Completely unhelpful. When asked questions he would just say "he didn't know" and made no attempt to research. This was over a basic iron deficiency.

Dr Afzal did not make eye contact and did not listen to me. He repeated the same questions I had already answered and performed a cursory exam. I do not recommend him.
