Dr Gu would not re-evaluate symptoms or treatments
If you have myasthenia gravis, find another neurologist. I wasted a year and a half with Dr. Gu. Each visit I would ask him about new medications or treatments for my condition or to reevaluate with new labs, and he ALWAYS refused. He just stood on one side of the room and barely said a word. I now have a new neurologist who very quickly determined with labs and other testing that my condition has worsened, and we are actively pursuing new treatments. Although I found Dr Gu's office staff to be nice, they are not professional like all other medical offices that I visit. I always waited an hour or more for a 5-minute visit with Dr. Gu and always went away feeling very dissatisfied.

I read the reviews, but Dr Gu was the only neurologist who could see me in less than 3 months. He was very nice on the first visit & listened, but seemed to misunderstand what I was saying my problem was. He did nerve tests on the 2nd & 3rd visits. One wrist showed mild carpal tunnel & that's what he focused on. The fact that I kept telling him the pain was in my shoulder & neck didn't matter. Even though she said she didn't think I needed it (I could hear them arguing through the door!), he made his nurse give me a nerve block injection in my wrist. Of course, it did no good. On the next visit, the nurse wanted to do trigger point injections to help the pain in my neck & shoulder, but Dr Gu refused. He said the problem was in my wrist & I didn't need injections in any other area. Now I know why my GP wasn't happy when I told him who I got an appointment with for neurology. Needless to say, I will not be back. You should go ahead & wait a little extra time & get in with a good doctor, rather than see Dr Gu

Rude and Dismissive
My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and dementia 5 years ago. We switched to this practice after we moved, and our first visit with Dr. Gu was DISASTROUS. He literally spent two minutes in the exam room with us and didn’t listen to a single thing we had to say. We found him to be extremely rude, abrupt and completely uncaring. He immediately rejected the previous diagnosis of Parkinson’s and recommended further testing rather than treating the ongoing Parkinson’s. In addition, when we asked questions about certain symptoms, he cut us off and proceeded to dismiss our concerns. When we tried again to ask our question, he stuck his finger in my face and said, “I will tell you ONE MORE TIME...” We called the office to voice our concerns, and they advised us that we were discharged from the practice. Needless to say, we recommend you avoid this place like the plague.

Office staff absolutely RUDE!!! Lizzy to be exact!!! I’m pretty sure a good portion of patients that go there are disabled and having them jump through hoops just for a prescription refill is not OK!!! Sad part is we like the doctor unfortunately we deal with the medical staff more than him which may result in finding a new neurologist.

I don’t understand why there are low reviews. There was an issue with staff, that as been resolved. He has never been late, or missed any of my appointments. Been a patient for almost 5 years. He doesn’t prescribe pain pills unless it is necessary. So maybe that is an issue with some people. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Gu. Always a class act.

Absolutely horrible bedside manner. Most negative doctors visit we ever had. Gave me no hope for recovery. Set me up for failure. Biggest waste of $185 for 5 minutes of his time. Will definitely go elsewhere for a more understanding, caring doctor

Dr. Gu was fine as long as he showed up, on my second appointment I waited 45 mins. and when I asked how much longer I was informed that the Doctor wasn't even there yet! So don't schedule a morning Appointment. Next as I set there waiting I could hear every Patients personal information as the staff scheduled tests for them, very small office and unprofessional.

Would give lower than the one star but it won't let me. Rude Doctor, staff talking bad about other patients loudly using foul language. Office is absolutely filthy. Never again will we step foot in that office.

Office staff disorganized. Most recently received call call about appointment I didn't make, cancelled of coursed, and harassed next day about missed appointment. Doctors seem more concerned over paychecks from insurance companies than patient health. 5 visits to office so far, $250 in copays plus whatever insurance is paying, and no treatment received. Back pain now debilitating to the point I can no longer drive and go there even if I wanted to. Thank You Malka Institute for nothing but bills.

The physicians are great, but the office staff (Spring Hill location) are rude, never call you back when promised, and lie right to your face. I get the impression that they are there only for a paycheck and fun and games. They have no problem using foul language in front of patients. I have been in healthcare for 33 years and it disgusts me how they carry themselves and treat the patients. I believe they need to remember that if it weren't for the patients they would not have a job.
