Exceptional physician
Started seeing Dr. Mettu more than almost two years ago for macular degeneration. He was recommended to me by another trusted Duke faculty member who has seen him for years for the same issue. I found Dr. Mettu to be very professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. I have had to wait for him longer than I’d like but I don’t take it personally. I learned years ago an excellent physician, like Dr. Mettu, is worth waiting for and worth driving a long distance to see.

I saw this provider on February 2024 for retinopathy. I was very dissatisfied and disappointed. Duke says it on mychart that the consultation with him is 20 minutes however, the appointment for testing retinopathy is 2 hours. That 2 hours turned into 4 hours and 30 minutes. I came at 12:30pm and did not leave until 5pm. When he finally came and talked to me, he only spent less than 5 minutes with me but I spent 2 and half hours waiting for him just for consultation. I asked him why it took so long, he lied and makeup some excuses, "we has 5 emergencies today and usually the appointment is not that long". Meanwhile when I was walking by the hallway because I was tired of sitting for hours and waiting for him. He was on his laptop the whole time with no patient seen. He never did apologized to me for waiting 5 hours on him for his 20 minutes consultation. During our consultation he was very unprofessional too. He was on the computer all the time, barely talked to talk and continuing typing. He never did explain anything to me, not made any eye contact with me. His other follower Dr. Christopher Turski was the one that explains everything to me and apologized to me, and show some courtesy towards me. Dr. Mettu did not show any remorse at all, and all he said was "you all good, you done, everything is normal, and follow-up in one year" within that 5 minutes he walked in. Terrible!
