I went to see Dr. Nijjar to clarify some test results I had received after an emergency room visit. Prabhjot answered my questions and I was happy to learn that my heart was in fine condition. But when I mentioned my dietary changes and weight loss goals (I was obese at the time) he was somewhat condescending. He asked me to explain why I thought I needed to loose weight. Then, when I said I had decided to stop drinking alcohol to help with my acid reflux, he again asked me why I thought I needed to do that. He waved his hand and told me that “a little wine is ok.” I think Dr. Nijjar is knowledgeable in his field. But it bothered me that he minimized my healthy lifestyle changes. Also, just because my healthy choices might not help my heart specifically, doesn’t mean the rest of my body won’t benefit.
