Dr. DeMatos was the on-call doctor contacted two days post-surgery. Instead of listening to identify the source of pain, he admonished the patient for calling on a Friday evening. He did not let the patient finish sentences and did not pay attention to crucial diagnostic information. He provided no guidance and simply said he could do nothing on a weekend for pain as a general policy. Yet, general policies do not enable doctors to obtain specific information. The patient was later admitted to a different hospital for infection as a complication of surgery. Dr. DeMato’s arrogance kept him from addressing the issue in front of him.

Dr. Dematos completely botched my surgery. I had what was supposed to be a simple cyst removal, but resulted in three months of wound care to deal with an incision that came open. The incision was open and bleeding for nearly a week because his medical assistant refused to move my appointment up, despite my explaining that something was most definitely wrong. Dr. Dematos tried to blame it on me, saying that I must have gone swimming or something to cause that to happen. Sorry, no, I don't think many people go swimming with a gaping, bleeding hole in their armpit. He then said it was a risk I took in having the surgery. When I told him I would have appreciated being informed of this possibility, and of being taken seriously when I called to say something was wrong, his reply was, "things happen." He then stormed out of the room. I will NEVER have another procedure done by him.

Dr. DeMatos extracted pancreatic cancer that was stage 4. From what I've read and understood about the disease, this cancer is very difficult to deal with, since it tends to grow into the bile ducts and wraps around blood vessels. He got it all out and took VERY good care of me.

I felt blessed to have had such a great surgeon. Dr. Dematos! He and his staff are very professional and friendly! He explained what my surgery would entail and a price breakdown! Surgery is never a "breeze" but Dr. Dematos made the experience less stressful with his calm and assuring manner and personality! I would highly recommend him to family and friends!
