Dr. Phedra Penn, MD

Dr Penn is a wonderful ob/gyn. Very thorough and gentle. Excellent bedside manner.

I visited Dr. Penn for my 12 week appt. I used IVF to get pregnant, so I was at the IVF clinic previously. I was excited for my first regular OB appointment but quickly realized this was not the doctor for me. From the minute she walked in the door it seemed like she couldn't wait for the appointment to be over. I was excited to hear my baby's heart beat, but wasn't sure if we'd be doing that today since she said there would be no ultrasound. She put the doppler on my belly (I only knew what this was from reading about it as this is my first pregnancy). She didn't explain what she was doing, and she said 'sounds normal,' to which I happily asked, 'is that the baby's heart rate?' and she laughed and said 'uh yeah I'd be concerned if yours was beating like that.' She was cold, sarcastic, and belittling. This was something that should have been joyous. I would not allow this woman to deliver my baby. I want someone warm and caring. She treated me like a number. Horrendous bedside manners.

Dr Penn was very attentive, thorough and professional. Pleasant bedside manner explaining every step of the exam. I liked that she took the time to review my health history so she could understand me better.All in all a pleasant experience which is a strange thing to say about a gynecological exam. Highly recommend this doctor.

My two visits with Dr. Penn was for an abnormality and she performed an in office biopsy. She did not listen to my concerns for options for my issues. She dismissed my opinions in a gruff manner and giggled as if I was ridiculous for voicing my opinion. The appointment felt very rushed. She did not give me a follow up call after results were in and left me guessing for next steps. I left a message with the office staff and another Dr. eventually called back for her to explain.

Dr. Penn is very attentive, although very fast. I really liked her approach. She watched me during my pregnancy and it so happened that I gave birth to the baby with her too. she is gorgeous

Dr. Penn fails to listen or understand her patients. The first thing that came out of her mouth (we have never met before), was “why weren’t you tested for gonorrhea?” She then did not believe me when I stated I was a virgin- she asked me tons of questions just to ‘make sure’ I understood what that meant. She also was very rough on her internal exam and angrily told me to relax multiple times throughout the exam, even though it was evident I was in pain. She dismissed my concerns and told me I was “too young” to have endometriosis (I have confirmed I have this as well as other gynecology related issues). She also refused my request of a trans vaginal ultrasound, saying I couldn’t handle it. Which I did handle just fine a month later with a different, more compassionate doctor. Long story short, do not waste your time. You will not be heard or feel validated with legitimate concerns. I would advise you seek care elsewhere.

Was having a post menopausal problem, went to see Dr Penn. She was so thorough and explained everything she was going to do, when the procedure started she said what she was doing and what I would be feeling. She and her staff made me feel at ease and very comfortable. I very much highly recommend Dr. Penn.

She traumatized me after telling me I was too overweight and that I could never lose weight without bariatric surgery. When I started to cry after she upset me she proceeded with the internal exam. Terrible doctor. As a nurse, she seriously needs some teaching on bedside manner.

Dr. Penn is an AMAZING doctor. She is a very professional and friendly doctor. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Penn made me feel sooo comfortable and was extremely reassuring. I left out feeling way better than when I came in and she took the time to actually listen to my concerns. I would definitely recommend her to anybody!
