Steer clear
If you would like to be belittled dismissed and gaslit, then this is the doctor to see. He has the same diagnosis for everyone and never formulates a follow up care plan or any form of follow up. Zero bedside manner, extremely arrogant.

Rudest office staff ever
We tried making an appointment, as we already have one with another Brigham & Women's doctor, but his staff was so rude that we have decided to take a week to travel to the Cleveland Clinic instead of being treated in Boston, where we live.

Stay Away from this Dr.
Referred after Autonomic testing at the Faulkner (ordered by another Dr) came back positive. Cancelled my New Patient appt because of his actions before appt. No empathy, didn't respond to the 2 questions I had before our appt or acknowledge anything else. He & his office LIED to me a few times. He Downgraded my "New Patient" appt to shorter appt at a building where they don't do Autonomic appts & after I emailed that I don't do Psych stuff he immediately downgraded to Virtual appt. I "Fact-Checked" what they said, that he "changed to virtual because the Hale building doesn't do in-person appts". So I called 2 B&Ws phone numbers, one being the Hale building, Neurosciences Neurology dept (where my appt would be) & both phone numberssaid Dr. Novak DOES in-person appts there...He LIED! Supposedly told my Allergist he DIDN'T think test results were from a "Psychological" problem but his actions speak louder than words so I cancelled! Better to let symptoms progress till something happens.

Do not go to this neurologist. If you are lucky, you will not be a “complex case” & will only see his PA - she is a great, caring, competent woman. That is the extent of my praise for the Brigham & Women’s neurology department. Novak is the sole doctor in this department so is tremendously overworked, which leads to wait times for much-needed appts in the 6+ months onwards range & also means NO communication whatsoever. And I mean none. Hundreds of unreturned messages, phone calls, etc., for months. My patient care advocate & primary dr also could not reach him. To put this in perspective this was for an urgent neurological matter related to a tumor. So the degrade of seriousness does not matter. Do not waste your time with this “doctor”, especially if you are trying to figure out pressing autonomic issues.

Brilliant doctor. His autonomic testing found my dysfunction after MGH had missed it. The sweat test in particular was highly superior and less painful than the one at mgh. Also, his testing involved cerebral blood flow velocity which others do not. He would never be one to say anything about your condition having a mental health component. Why? Because he knows HOW severe neurologic/autoimmune conditions including POTS with hyper adrenaline can be and how they can make people act or seem. He has clearly seen a lot and he likes to get it right-he doesnt guess. While he is short on words and that is hard when you have waited months, he wont waste time pretending to know something or take time if no more treatment or diagnosis can be obtained. I agree with a previous post that perhaps this is where someone at the office could be added to help ensure a better and more comprehensive treatment plan for patients especially for neuropathic pain.

It is disappointing to show up to a recommended neuro then be in & out the office in a couple minutes, especially after several months wait. Complex issues require a little more time spent w/patient. His goal is to rush you out the door. The office admins are very helpful & friendly!

Dr. Novak brought his ego into the room. He used as many anatomical terms as possible to try to distract me from the fact that he wasn't listening to me when I talked. He didn't listen to or dismissed my symptoms and decided on a diagnosis and treatment that would get me out of his office in under 5 minutes. It didn't help. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. The staff was very friendly though.

Thanks to Dr. Peter Novak, I was able to find out what my problem was. After so many years of dealing with different health issues; Dr.Novak was able to tell me about my disease called POTs. He's not at UMass anymore because he works at Brigham and Women's now so it's harder for me to see him but anyone who has dysautonomia should see him. He's the best. Very knowledgeable and very trustworthy. I recommend him 100%
