My wife and I met with Dr. Kierstead while my wife spent time in the ICU at Alta Bates Summit Hospital in July 2019. We both found him to be very depressing and lacking of any compassion. His message, which was presented in a very matter-of-fact way, seemed to be to remind my wife that she had a terminal illness and was unlikely to survive, either because her heart would likely stop by because her brain tumors would bleed out. Fortunately, the vast majority of the clinical staff at Alta Bates was warm, compassionate and encouraging. I hope for Dr. Kierstan’s sake and future patients, some of the compassion rubs off on him.
