Not the right MD for females with chronic pain
Dr Tawney sent me to physical therapy which I complied with for months. It only exacerbated my condition. He prescribed many medications (I requested no opioids), none of which helped unfortunately. I had been told he was a great provider, so I continued seeing him hoping we would find solutions for my pain. The more I saw him though, the more he acted agitated at my lack of progress. I wanted improvement and never blamed him for my lack of progress. I stopped seeing him because I often felt sad when I left my appointments. His demeanor made me feel that he viewed me as an annoying woman who was exaggerating her chronic pain or that he thought it was all in my head. I gave up searching for medical help to address my pain for a few years because those visits affected me so negatively. I still fear meeting new doctors because of how bad they make you feel when they either don’t believe you or can’t figure out how to help you.

My husband traveled from upstate NY seeking help from what we thought was from a messed up hip revision. Dr Tawney suggested my husband see a dr who did a hip mri & saw “something” . After performing arthroscopic surgery it was found that he had a torn hip tendon!! NY dr wanted to do major back surgery that would mean he would never work again! Thank you Dr Tawney.

During the visit, I felt that the doctor was not fully engaged and a little bored. When I reviewed the visit note, I discovered many inaccuracies -- clearly he did not listen to what I was saying and neglected to record functional limitations on exam. Dr. Tawney was condescending and offered nothing new, just yet another PT referral and no testing other than basic x-rays that he briefly reviewed on a printout.
