Don't know if discrimination, neglation or just bad
I have scheduled 3 appointments with Mr. Burschtin (I was referred and scheduled with him initially September 2020!). When they called me a day before my appointment in July 2021 to Reschedule to March 2022, I didn't expect that they will call me on my birthday to do the same (great gift, thanks). I have no idea how is he prioritizing patients or whether he is just a hot mess or something is going on in his life for almost two year now, but as a foreigner and non-native speaker in this country, I always feel like it's harder to get in front of certain professionals or that it's easier to push me down the line, and I hope it's not the case here.

If you want to be a patient of Dr. Burschtin plan on it taking years to get any care. I was first referred to Dr. Burschtin February of 2018 by my neurologist. When I called I was told the first available appointment was in November so that is what I booked. After the first consultation, a sleep study was ordered and the Doctor told me to come back in 3 months. However I was then told that 3 months wasn't available and it would have to be March, so that is when I booked for. The home sleep study was performed in February. The week before my appointment I was called and told that even though they had scheduled an appointment that Dr. Burschtin wouldn't be available and we would have to reschedule. The first available appointment was in July (8 months after my consultation). Nevetheless that is what I booked. Today I got a call telling me that the Doctor wouldn't be available and again they would have to reschedule. The first available appointment is in October. 11 months after my cons

If You are in need for a sleep specialist look no further than Omar Burschtin. He genuinely is the most caring and concerned Dr I have ever met. I cannot begin to tell you how many calls and texts he has made to assist me with my sleep apnea. He even calls me on weekends and when he is out of the country. My original Dr took very little interest in my problem and that’s how Dr. Burschtin got involved. He is a consummate professional. Mount Sinai is fortunate to have him.

He was impatient and rude. I went for a consult on a colleagues advice, and handed him my history of 2 sleep studies with MSLTs diagnosing me with narcolepsy, and he looked at me snottily and said 'you don't have narcolepsy'. I didn't know whether to ask him if he was doubting the competence of his fellow sleep doctors (trained in Neurology, not Pulmonology) or calling me a malingerer. Either way, his attitude was very unprofessional, and I never returned.

After one doctor recommended that I begin using a machine because a sleep study showed I had mild sleep apnea, Dr. Burschtin examined the details of the study and found that all my short apneas happened when I was sleeping on my back. Now I sleep on my side and am fine! Moreover, he and his staff came up with some better habits for me to improve the quality of my sleep as well. I recommend him highly if you are serious about understanding sleep issues in detail and can handle criticism.
