Dr. Olivia Kapono, MD

I feel so lucky to have her as my primary care physician. She is compassionate, caring and follows through.

Dr. Kapono is one of the best doctors I've ever had. Example: I've been having high blood pressure, so she wheeled an EKG into the room and found I have a heart condition. (Of course, she then referred me to a specialist.) She returns phone calls after-hours, answers all my MANY questions, and looks stuff up right there in the office. She regularly spends up to a half an hour with me since I have multiple health issues. I've never been neglected. And of course, when you pick a doctor, do your research first. That's how I found Dr. Kapono.

Receptionist was great, friendly, kind. Her nurse however was rude, stand offish, and not professional. The nurses workstation is clearly visible to patients and there was food everywhere- not sanitary. Nurse was not smiling, and sighed when another staff member told her she had a phone call. She seemed like being a nurse is inconvenient for her. Dr. Kapono although is an okay doctor, there aren't many in Hilo. She tells you she will call you and returns calls months later. She told me that she was going to refer me to a specialist, I got that referral 3 months later. I requested my last visit note, and it wasn't completed. Truely unprofessional doctor. Does she really have my health in her best interest, when she can't finish my note? I hope that she recorded all my issues for that visit.

Always takes time to understand and discuss any concerns with patients, follows up quickly and thoroughly on any tests, and genuinely cares.

Dr. Kapono is the best. She really cares for her patients. She makes sure you are comfort in any situation. I just found out, Dr. Kapono will be moving to hilo and I am really bummed. I will truly miss having her as my doctor. But I wish her all the best in Hilo.
