I have been seeing Dr. B consistently every 2-4 weeks since 9/21. Today on 1/23, I terminated his services for a couple reasons. 1. He charged me $190 fee for cancelling my appt. at 49.5 hours instead of 48 hours. He had previously told me, via email, that he needs a 48 hour cancellation notice to avoid charging me $190. Our appt was on 1/19 at 11:00 am and I cancelled on 1/17 at 12:30 pm. I get it, It wasn't within the 48 hours he needed, but the fact that he's made a substantial amount of money from our consistent "check ins", i would think he would offer me a bit of grace. 2. On one of our check ins, I was visibly distressed due to the stimulants I was taking. I informed him that I shouldn't be on any stimulants and he said ok. He did not ask if I was ok or what was going on. A month later when I changed my mind, he gladly agreed to continue prescribing a stimulant and said that I was "driving the bus". I feel there was a lack of warmth & care & more motivation to collect $$

As others have mentioned, after 1 visit and right before the second visit Dr. Bernhardt terminated care inexplicably. "moving his practice in a different direction".

Dr. Bernhardt took me on as a patient, changed up all of my medications and dosages, then didn't even stick around long enough to arrive at a successful new treatment plan for my relatively simple conditions. Instead, he dumped me via a letter without warning, advance notice, or any reason. I am left with no provider, worsening conditions, and concerning side effects - at a time that locating one whose practice is not full is no small feat.

sadly... he is a robot... that only cares about getting paid. I am sure there are bunches of qualified compassionate doctors that one can go to, other than him in Austin.

"It's a business," he said as I sobbed in his chair explaining that I couldn't afford the absurd $200 charge for missing an appointment due to being sick, despite the fact that I emailed and informed him before 24 hours, his policy. He informed me that he increased his missed appointment charge to a whopping $200 AND the timeframe to 48 hours. "How can I know 48 hours beforehand, that I'm going to get sick?" I asked. He couldn't answer me. I was in shock and pure disbelief, that someone who's in this profession admitted that it was nothing but business to them. My mental health is not a "business" and shouldn't be treated as one.

Extremely condescending and unprofessional. If you have a serious mental health issue, don’t go to this guy. He’ll make is worse. He talks to you like a child and never seems to know what he’s doing.

He's not a bad psychiatrist, but he isn't the most reliable nor is he great with communication. I would only recommend to people that are willing to adhere to a very strict approach to treatment...

horrible doctor, he comes across as arrogant and obviously has no clue what he's doing, caveat emptor! Do some more digging, you don't want to be anywhere near this guy.
