Unprofessional Late No Return Call
25 minutes late from the start. After being taken back to the room a resident came to examined me. I was there for lipomas on each upper thigh and each was a good size. The resident examine them told me what she thought and she went to get doctor Alam so he can give me his diagnosis and see if he agreed. She left and I waited another 30 minutes. I was just getting up to leave as they came walking in the door. So of course, I'm upset about the situation because I'm waiting almost an hour and I have to get to work. He apologizes for the situation and actually offers to do my lipo procedure for free as 'a teaching moment.' NEVER HEARD FROM HIS STAFF AGAIN! Nobody returned my calls. I Now understand why he offered the procedure for free, there was no intentions of performing it. Well played Dr. Alam! I also have lipedema that was right in front of your face how did you not see that? All the signs were there. You should look at the patients.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Dr. Alam has no respect for patient's time and/or ability to keep to a schedule. I've had two appointments and both times I had to wait over an hour. The most recent visit I had to leave without being seen after being left in a room for an hour with nobody coming to see me. If you want a medical professional who treats you with respect DO NOT GO TO DR ALAM. There are plenty of great dermatologists in Chicago.

A very unprofessional doctor
The staff that works with Dr. Alam is fantastic but he himself is awful. He is always running at least an hour behind your appointment time, he referred to me as “a child” for some reason (I’m 36,) and during a surgery he was more interested in talking about me to another staff member than actually talking TO me. I’ve given him three appointment chances, but I certainly won’t be back. Northwestern has a ton of wonderful doctors, but Alam is certainly not one of them.

Over 2 hours late to the appointment. Office was dirty and the staff masks not over their noses.

I went to Dr. Alam’s office yesterday and the office was a disorganized circus. I was told at check in that my visit would be 45 minutes to an hour delayed. I waited 45 minutes after my appointment time and then was told it could be another 30 minutes to 45 minutes and that a patient with an appointment an hour before mine was still waiting. When asked if this was normal, I was told it was for a Monday. And the waiting area was small and congested with no effort for social distancing. If they cared about patient experience and the time commitment one takes to take time out of their schedule, they could have notified me before I left my house they were running behind. They showed no respect for patients.

This Dr changed my life. Having a severe case of Rosacea on my nose, he was able to surgically correct appearance back to normal. Although i was very nervous with the procedure he was able to relax me through this procedure. Not sure how I could ever thank this Dr enough, but he is truly a great surgeon.

I saw Dr. Alam today for a squamous cell carcinoma in my lower lip. It was my first major surgery and he and his team took wonderful care of me. I was in their office and waiting room in and out of procedures for 8 hours. Yes, a long time to wait, but when your health is on the line I would do it again. Thankful for the attention to detail of Dr. Alam. His team made me feel comfortable and I can not recommend him highly enough.

I have been under Dr. Alam's care almost since he started at Northwestern. Prior to that I had been seen by nearly every major facility in Chicagoland and many across the Country. Being a Veteran skin cancer patient, having thousands of lesions removed using every known modality, I can attest to Dr. Alam knowledge. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable in his field but far beyond that he is highly skilled at his trade. Above all is his caring and kindness for each and every patient. Thanks Doc

Dr. Alam explained that a specific office visit would be covered by insurance. It was not. I disputed the charge. Northwestern Medicine refuses to remove the charge from my account. I cannot recommend a physician that promises a procedure would be covered by insurance and then charge me an out-of-pocket expense. Dr. Alam cannot be trusted.

Dr. Alam is an excellent surgeon and has a fine team of assistants. He is always pleasant courteous and even talks to make sure you're calm during surgery. Never condescending. and if you need stitches he is as good as a plastic surgeon.

I would Dr. Alam 4 or 5 stars but my experience was unsatisfactory. I arrived at 8:30. after a 10-minute walk from home and was taken at 9:00. The basal cell removal was done by 9:30. I was told to return in 45 minutes for results, although it could be 90. Returning at 10:15, I found the nurse at 11 who said results were negative and I'd get stiches shortly. At 1:15, I told another nurse if he wasn't in in 15 minutes I was leaving. He showed up at 1:30. I could've waited at home.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Alam. I was diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma on my upper eye just under my brow. At my request he fit me in for a consultation. He listened to and addressed all my concerns, was kind and patient. He fully explained the procedure and put me at total ease. During the procedure, he was gentle, considerate and seemed highly skilled. He and his team were the ultimate professionals. I have the utmost confidence in him and rate him 10 out of 10

So knowledgeable and caring about my frequent lower leg squamous cell skin cancers. Concerned about Mohs surgery being pain free and trying several procedures to eliminate sun damaged cells so they don`t become skin cancer. Sometimes have to wait but so worth it.
