Dr. Mitchell Dugas, MD

This doctor violated Florida Statute 382.008 by failing to comply with his duty to sign the death certificate within 72 hours of being sent it by the funeral home, leaving my father to rot for approximately 4 days. His failure to comply with the law mentally destroyed my mother, who was married to him almost 59 years.

I've had Acute Pancreatitis before and my lab numbers and pain were higher than previous incidents. My past hospital stays were at least 3 days not the 24 hour turn around I rec'd with Dr. Dugas. The reason for at least 3 days is basically the pancreas needs time to rest which means no food, no water, no ice only an IV, pain medication and vitamins. Previous stays the doctors rechecked my amylase and lipase but not Dr. Dugas. The labs help the doctor determine if a pancreas is ready for food and drink again. Dr. Dugas had me eat a sandwich within 24 hours and if I kept it down I could go home. I went home but later the sandwich caused me severe pain that even an opioid couldn't handle. I went to my primary who prescribed Hyoscyamine for the abdominal cramps which helped me. Why did he rush me out? Why didn't he recheck my amylase and lipase? Why did he have me eat food so early? Why didn't he prescribe medication for abdominal cramps? He moved WAY to fast for pancreatitis.

After seeing Dr. Dugas as my primary for 12-years it would have been nice for him to at least advise his patients that he was leaving Lafayette and moving to Pensacola, FL. No notice, no mention of leaving...just vanished. I found out when I called to schedule blood work for my annual physical....Sad, I expected more...guess I was mistaken.

Dr. Duas was awesome, caring, understanding and listened to what I had to say. What more could one ask for. Empathetic as well. Awesome MD
