Dr. Michael Zachareas, MD

5 years ago I had pylonephritis & hydronephrosis & was hospitalized. I began getting close to being septic around midnight. Dr. Z wheeled my hospital bed down to the operating theatre himself when there was nobody to transport me. He was kind, reassuring, & professional, plus he made jokes on our way. I’m now having urinary issues 5 years later & MGH was fumbling! He fit me in the very day I called & took care of me. My primary care is at MGH, so I wasted a month with their urology department. Should have just come back to Dr Z right away, but I sure am glad I did now! He’s the best!

As a 'longtime customer' of the Good Doctor I can tell you that his skill, intelligence, and genuine concern for his patients is very reassuring. I would have no reason to look elsewhere.

Easily one of the worst doctors I’ve ever met. When I sought a second opinion on placement of kidney stents by him and the other doctor said I didn’t need them, his response was “If you want to destroy your kidneys, that’s on you”. He did the Urolift procedure on me and it’s failed miserably. I’m not getting a TURP with a physician in an actual hospital. Bonus points for answering a call on his cell phone during a visit to yell at his wife. Stay away.

"Unlike you, I dont have to work another day in my life" Dr. Zachareas I had a direct conversation with Dr. Z where he stated he would reach out to me the following day. He did not. When I reached out to him, he did not reply. I called his office and spoke with his secretary, who assured me he would call me that day. Dr. Zachareas called me 5 days later and told me he did not call me because "it was his son's birthday". I'm not sure how that factors in at all - this is a medical professional. When I told him I found that unprofessional and that he had lied to me about reaching out he became irate and said "unlike you, I don't have to work another day in my life." Besides the fact this was irrelevant to our conversation, it highlights the type of person Dr Zachareas is. He is, by documented fact, a poor quality provider, manipulative, and a great example that money cannot buy class. He may say I got Irate, and after that I sure did. No regrets.

He said he catheterizes all female patients to get a “clean” urine sample — insulting and unethical.

I found Dr. Zachareas very likable, friendly (which is huge as most doctors are not), and very knowledgeable. I actually have hope he can help me. Full no nonsense and no tell you what you want to hear bs and honest. Refreshing. I’d have rated him higher but waiting for results but so far top notch.

Dr. Zachareas said my bladder cancer was a stage T1. The pathology report said extensive invasion into the lamina propria. The next layer would be muscle (which is when bladder removal is recommended). He wanted to treat me with a medication inserted into the bladder. I was worried this treatment was not enough. I went to Boston, MGH, where they removed the bladder. The pathology now showed stage T3a. Stage T4 is metastatic, which is what would have happened if I followed Dr Z's treatment plan.

Michael is the balls. He is a great doctor with excellent bedside manor. A very adept urologist who really knows his trade. The office staff is awesome also! Highly recommended!!! You will not be sorry making the right choice!

I’ve been a patient for a few years. Dr. Z is a great doctor, one of the few offices you go to and don’t feel like your at the doctors office he talks to you like a regular person and has a sense of humor. From my family we all highly recommend him as a urologist. People complaining about him obviously don’t have a clue what sarcasm is. If you don’t do the things he tells you to do and you end up back in his office with kidney stones he will make a joke About putting kids thru college LOL

He is "procedure happy" - he does unnecessary procedures BEFORE trying other methods. Making money seems to be his primary focus, not the well being of his patients. Run away - fast!

Great doctor easy to talk to listens to your concerns

I have been a patient for 5.5 years. I joke with my husband I should have a frequent flyer card with them because I feel like I am always there. Bernie is awesome, I barely ever use my last name I swear she knows it's me. That said, as a long time patient, I will say the staff as well as, the Good Dr. Are amazing and professional. I've seen comments about wait times and things but he is a doctor in high demand, and the best of the best. I even had a Saturday morning procedure because he cares

Arrogant, doesn't listen, questionable ethics. Look elsewhere.
