Despite surgery only saw him twice!
After having to have a partial knee replacement fixed and needing a full to repair it, Dr Gilde in the same office did that surgery and was literally so good when I had back issues to fix I just went to Winkelplek. They are literally complete opposites. I saw Dr W only 2 times. Once in the office prior to surgery and the day of surgery. Never saw him again despite issues. He put in SCS. He asked where I wanted it, marked the spot and put it 6 inches away in place that causes me constant pain when I wear jeans or anything with a firm waist and. Exactly where I was told they avoid. I messaged the office on line and no response after a week. On a Wednesday it's Sunday just a smidge past their '48' hour contact rule. This was to relieve pain. Boston Scientific has been attentive but Dr W and his staff have not. I fell on the ice hard and my GP had to order X-rays to insure all was good. That's unacceptable. Couldn't beore disappointed one one of the most important surgeries of my life.

Rude As Can Be
Dr. Winkelpleck was one of the most rude and arrogant doctors I’ve spoken to in the medical field. Extremely condescending, did not like how my GP was handling my unbearable amount of pain in my low back and leg. Was very short about answering questions regarding recovery time, and absolutely freaked out about “losing his license” because he can’t prescribe proper pain medication (my GP has had no issues). All said, my experience with Winkelpleck was not enjoyable, and I will be meeting with different surgeons in the area to better discuss how my back can be dealt with in a way that allows me to still function and get school work done. I would give Winkelpleck a negative star rating if I could. Hope this review is helpful for anyone dealing with chronic pain and are looking for a solution. This practice seems like a pit-stop that you can easily avoid before going to see someone else who’s competent at their job.

Caring, Knowledgeable, & Informed
Dr. Winklepleck has provided excellent care for my spine and was very informative of what was happening and causing my pain. He spent as much time as I needed to explain the course of action we were going to take. He was thoughtful and personable.

Dr. Winklpleck did my c-7 disk way back around 2006. I have not had a problem with it since surgery. Now looking at my lower spine. Wouldn't uy any one else as long as he is practicing.

Dr W didn’t listen and was very condescending. He didn’t give me any options for additional treatment other than saying, “when you can’t stand the pain anymore, you’ll need surgery.” He didn’t explain what surgery I would need, just said that he wouldn’t do it anyway and would refer me to someone else. I sought PT on my own and ultimately went to the Cleveland Clinic where the Dr took the time to thoroughly review my history and test results. I was treated with respect and offered a variety of options. I would not recommend Dr W to anyone.

I used to have the most crippling pain in my back and down my legs. Thanks to Dr Winklepleck I'm living my life again. Dr. takes his time and speaks to you with respect and in a language you can understand. Also his staff is the greatest they really take an interest in you. I have recommended him to many people. He's just the best.

This Dr. is one very impersonal, un-professional, and stupid. I thinks he's not competent or has the confidence to be a Surgeon. He's a joke! He didn't look at my records and compare them to previous ones. I have a PA helping me with meds and she's going to cut me off because this Dr. says I don't need surgery when I have L4-S1 Spondylosis, facet arthropathy, bone spurs, bilateral neural foraminal narrowing, and lateral bulging with root contact at the foramina. He said I didn't need surgery WOW

Had a c5-c6 fusion done through the front of my neck after 2 years of dealing with a severe herniation. After waking in the hospital, I felt, as I can hardly describe now, the most amazing relief. Pain was at a minimum and recovery time was short (physical therapy and strictly following the doctors recommendations). It's been 4 years and I'm stronger than ever! Highly recommend him, great bedside manner and care.

Dr. Winkelpleck operated on my when I was 15 years old and I didn't have any problems until I developed arthritis in my lower back. I was fortunate that he was still practicing in my area. However, MSU is awful. My doctor's offices had so many issues getting a hold of them, and then so did my physical therapy team. The wait time is the worst... BUT Dr. Winkelpleck is worth the wait. He's really good and he cares.

Very happy with the whole experience! Was extremely thorough and made sure the he knew exactly what the issues were and the safest way to deal with them. I always knew the what where and why, and I appreciated that. Wouldn't hesitate to have him take care of any other issues that may come up later on, for me or my family.
