Good outcomes, poor communication, robotic staff
I have had 2 knee replacements with Swank, 1st went smoothly so no communication issues since none was needed. 2nd surgery, excessive bleeding had to stay in recovery longer because of low blood pressure, sent home then had 4 days where I could not sit up or stand much because I was so dizzy from the blood loss. My leg was so big the stocking would not fit. Bruised from hip to foot, which I’m told is normal but then had a fluctuant area at 2 weeks which was moving into my calf. At the 2 week visit you are only allowed to see a PA, not the doctor. I was concerned about a compartment syndrome and asked to see Swank (who was in the office and having a convo just outside my exam room door). In the end the PA asked him twice to see me and even told him I was willing to wait til the end of his day if necessary. He refused! I’ve never heard of such a thing when the surgeon is on site. Staff is robotic and it typically takes2-4 days to return a call. Good luck if you choose him.

Absolute worst medical treatment I have ever had!!! I was in the medical field for 18 years and I have never met a physician so rude with no compassion at all. I could write the entire experience but why waste my time. Just know that is he the worst physician I have ever encountered and being a nurse I have worked with many. I wouldn't even recommend him to my worst enemy! And of course when I called to discuss the horrible experience with the office manager she never called me back so that tells you a little about the office staff too.

Great experience
I had my right knee total replacement performed by Dr. Swank on November 16th. I am very happy with both the process, the surgery, the rehabilitation, and most importantly, the result. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Swank and his entire team. I have been treated with great care throughout the entire journey. I would highly recommend the Conformis knee option with Dr. Swank where your new knee is custom built to your specifications. I now have stability in that knee that I have not had for 54 years. I am very pleased with my result.

Dr. Swank did total knee replacement on both of my knees in 2019, one at a time. Both surgeries went extremely well, without any complications. His procedure and experience are invaluable. Highly recommend Dr. Swank for Total Knee Replacement.

I had a hip revision by Dr. Swank. He removed the hip and didn't replace it, saying that I had an infection. Two months with one leg and the infectious doctor maintaining that I did not have an infection did not set well with me. Dr. Swank's assembly line like work apparently did not allow time to check any lab tests. When my wife asked who was going to tell Ralph, he replied, "you are". That night there was no follow-up guidance at the hospital and I dislocated my hip. To top it off he sent me home to recover, where I almost died. Luckily I was able to get into Jewish Hospital which got me into a care facility. After a few follow-up visits, usually with his assistant, he had an admin person tell me that he has switched me to another doctor, having her tell me he no longer works with revisions, which was a lie because a lady at our tennis club had a revision from him months after that. The worst part was that it was a failed surgery and Dr. Johansen rebuilt what Dr. Swank had done.

I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time, in his office while he stood outside the door talking to his PA and flirting with a woman in the office, which I could hear the whole time. He rushed through all the explanations of my knee issue and didn't want to hear anything I had to say. He wasn't interested in me as a patient. He wasn't interested in helping me with my knees except to tell me to exercise to relieve my pain. "Push myself past my limits to improve my knee pain". I will not be going back not would I recommend him!

Dr. Swank performed a total knee replacement on my right knee just over six months ago. I didn't seem to be healing properly. Dr. Swank told me it was because my expectations were too high. Well, when things continued to be problematic, DESPITE DOING EVERYTHING DR. SWANK TOLD ME TO DO, I finally sought a second opinion. I learned that my flexibility is WAY below where it should be AND it is too late to perform the "simple" corrective surgery. I'm now facing another MAJOR SURGERY because of poor follow-up/communication on Dr. Swank's part!!

Dr. Swank replaced my left knee in 2014, after many failed arthroscopic surgeries by other Drs. I've never had a problem since and I highly recommend him as well as the physical therapy team.

Difficult to get anyone on the phone - no matter which option you choose. Routinely spend over 10 minutes on hold, and sometimes noone answers after 20 minutes. Neither Dr. Swank nor his staff listen to the patient. They want to tell you exactly what you are feeling, and when you try to explain that is not your experience they tell you how you are just over-reacting. In my case, that attitude is resulting in another doctor having to fix Dr. Swank's error.

Dr. Swank is, without a doubt, the best knee replacement surgeon in southwestern Ohio. His technique of making the incision to the side of the kneecap allows for better mobility and flexibility after the replacement. 5 weeks out and I am playing golf and walking 30 minutes (minimum) every day. I highly recommend the Conformis Knee.

Highly recommended! Dr Swank is very clear in communicating the pre- op and post- op procedures and defining realistic recovery expectations and goals. He respectful to give you time for questions. I had total hip replacement 2/21/17 and post surgery pain was minimal. I was off pain medication in about 5 days, walker in 8 days and cane in 10 days. Follow his post op instructions and little therapy is required. 6 weeks after surgery, swinging the golf clubs again! Very impressed with the results!

From my first visit, I felt comfortable with Dr. Swank. He spoke to me not at me. He listened to my symptoms and explained my options. My total knee replacement went very smoothly and I was able to go home early the next day. Like most physicians, he has a limited amount of time for each visit but spends the visit focused on the patient

Fantastic! If you need a hip surgeon there is no choice. I am so glad that a friend told me about Dr Swank, he performed my total hip surgery February 20th, I was walking unaided March 3rd. It sounds unbelievable but it is true. Dr Swank preferred I go home from the hospital, but I did not lfeel comfortable being home alone after surgery. I went to Cedar Village for rehab, another good choice. Great rehab team lovely large private rooms and full bath. If you do as you're told you will recover

Despite being covered by my insurance, and an in-network provider in my Anthem plan, after making an appt. and waiting 15 minutes in the waiting room, they informed me that they do not accept my private pay insurance. That unless I am with a big company, they will not take a private pay plan that purchased through the KY Health Exchange. This is not Medicaid or any other subsidized plan, it s a high quality health insurance plan purchased by a self-employed individual.
