Dr. Michael Marcus, MD

I spoke to Dr Marcus for about an hour as our first meeting. He was thoughtful, asked great questions and I felt very comfortable with him. I was very nervous because the psychiatrist is have been seeing for a very long time is retiring. I was really surprised at how much he put me at ease and how comfortable I felt with him.

Honestly baffled by how positive these reviews are! While my experience with Dr. Marcus started positively - quickly scheduled an intake visit during my lowest depressive episode - things gradually went downhill. Over the two years I was part of his practice, our sessions decreased in time to approx 2-3 minute phone calls. He regularly called me 10-15 minutes before our scheduled time and would condescend me for not being more 'timely' or 'organized' with my calendar. When my ins. plan changed and required a prior auth. for the medication I had been taking for over one year, his office offered ZERO support to mediate this process and it took many, many unanswered voicemails to finally get my medication filled - after I'd been forced to self-taper due to their lack of timeliness. I left his office a few months ago and have had a total change in care with my new psychiatrist. She listens! And takes her time! And is responsive! Grateful I left to go somewhere I am respected.

All my experiences with Dr. Marcus over the 10+ years of being his patient have been unmatched, hes kind, compassionate, thorough, proficient, and always willing to listen. Over the years Ive been told if you love what you do for a living, you wont have to work a day in your life. Dr. Marcus embodies that philosophy, because he takes his time and connects with you and goes to every length to make a positive impact to better his patients lives.

Dr. Marcus listened to me and heard my concerns. He asked plenty of questions in an effort to get to know me and understand my concerns. Dr. Marcus explained thoroughly the medication and its side effects. He set up a follow-up appointment and told me I could discontinue the medication at any time.

The sheer volume of positive reviews here has me wondering if I really am a crazy person. I had a completely different experience with this provider. I saw Dr. Marcus for several years in Boston for depression. I was on the same dose of SSRI for years; he refused to write a prescription for more than 60 days. He would book a fifteen minute appointment and see myself and two other people within that slot. I regularly had 2-minute sessions. It was almost impossible to reach his office over the phone to handle scheduling, and voicemails were not acknowledged. Over the pandemic I had such difficulty making an appointment that my prescription ran out. It wound up being less trouble to taper off of the medication than it was to deal with this provider and his office. My final appointment with him (phone), he shouted at me. I now see a real provider. This is a pill mill designed to extract money from your insurance company. If he's holding you hostage for these reviews, blink twice for help!
