Dr. Michael Dougherty, MD

I like his straightforward no nonsense approach. He is professional, caring and shows interest in the person he is treating. I have now seen him several times as he is my primary care physician.

Where to begin?! First and foremost, I don't appreciate a SUPPOSED professional using the F-bomb during my visit. He did this when complaining about the amount of paperwork he has. Then the rapid-fire reading of my lab results, followed by the rapid-fire asking of 20 questions. The actual 'exam' consisted of listening to my breathing with the stethoscope. Nothing else. Then there's the office help - numerous times of calling resulting in a recording stating 'the number is not answering, try again later'. After about 5 or 6 tries, I finally got through. This has happened on numerous occasions, even before our previous family doctor retired.

The 'exam' consisted of briefly listening to my lungs and quickly going over my lab results. Didn't care for him dropping the f-bomb when he said 'I have too much ----ing paperwork' nor his constant attempts at TRYING to be humorous. Extremely unprofessional demeanor from start to finish. Also, when I tried to call the office, made several attempts after the office was supposed to be open, and after 10 rings I got a recording saying 'no one is available, please try again later'. Definitely will be looking for a new family doctor.

The entire office, including Dr. Dougherty lacks professionalism. Phone doesn't get answered, yet you can hear staff anddoctor in one of the rooms laughing and joking around. Person that sits at the front desk is in the back with them. It's more like a daycare than anything else! Dr. thinks he's funny and likes to swear and just be overall crude. Needless to say, I'll be looking for a different doctor in my network.

Handsome, fit, smart, young, no visible socks. Also, attentive, even when I didn't think he was paying attention . Bedside manner the best! Sense of humor a plus!! He's stuck with me and my issues. Breath of fresh air compared to my former doctor. Don't change.

Great office staff. Easy to schedule appointments. No wait before visit time. Physician has good rapport with me and took time to listen and provide realistic suggestions on improving health.

I saw Dr Dougherty at the beginning of 2023. Seemed to be a nice enough person ,but soon enough the red flags started flying. First red flag , was that he wouldn’t refill naproxen ,which is an over-the-counter medication that I’ve been on for years for my arthritis. I just can’t get that same dosage over the counter. Second red flag ,was no one ever answers the phone. And if you do go into the office, you will see the girls at the counters texting away on their cell phones. During my second visit with this doctor, I inquired as to why some of my specialists with my health insurance we’re leaving ,And I asked him if he was going to be leaving Devoted Health, and he told me that no he would not be. He said that specialists work differently and are paid differently than primary care physicians. He told me that it didn’t matter to him if he had one patient a day or 200 he still gets paid the same. Another red flag. If you have health problems are on medication I do not recommend this Dr.

I have a team of about 6 doctors, and sadly Dr. Dougherty is the only one I can depend on. I have previously felt ignored, unheard, and pushed onto medications/procedures I didn't want, nor felt comfortable with almost every doctor I saw in Florida. That all changed with Dr. Dougherty, he listens, he cares, his staff coordinates with other offices that aren't as reachable, and makes me feel like he cares about me getting and feeling better and living out a successful life with my family. I have seen over 12 doctors on Merritt Island/Brevard and he is the ONLY one I would recommend at this time. If you are new to town or need a new doctor because you don't want just another Florida doctor who just collects $ and doesn't care-MAKE THE SWITCH. Seriously, Dr. Dougherty is awesome and his bedside manner literally saved me when neither my psychiatrist or orthopedist cared about my deteriorating mental and physical health. 5 STARS!
